Amish Mafia -- probably spoilers

I've seen two episodes of this and I'm inexplicably hooked.

What's the over under on this being fake? Totally fake, partially fake?

The first episode I saw seemed relatively reasonable with the scenarios they were in.

The 12/12 episode seemed more probably fake, particularly with the on screen message about the fake Amish goods truck driver.

I havn't watched it yet, but just based on the peviews, I'm going with at least 95% fake.

Ya think? lol

And what they burned in the road was no where close to being a truck load of stuff.

This show is beyond ridiculous.

I do not understand this show, it is labeled as reality, but this cannot be real, right?

Also totally like this show and also don't know why. Are these people who have left the Amish and have been recruited for the show?

This sums up my thoughts too.

Parts of it make sense, like the fact that they don't have insurance or other "English" things and therefore would need some sort of alternative, but the rest seems wacked out.

They've all been shown using cell phones.

They're saying that the Elders ignore it because they weren't baptized in the Church. I don't get that part.

Yeah they all have I think but I was specifically talking about their leader, which for some reason, his name escapes me.

Fake, fake, fake in my opinion.

If you google it you'll find the producers do admit scenes are "recreations". Of what? What somebody alleges happened?

Fake.

I don't even think you have to google it, there is a disclaimer somewhere in the credits.

The credits say that it is based on actual events, recollections, and the "legend" of the Amish Mafia.

Pretty shaky ground I would say. LOL

Given that it's playing on TLC, and Breaking Amish was fake, is there any doubt?

I watched the first episode. Didn't they say in the beginning that it was all dramatizations because of Amish rules and being on camera?

Well that's kinda the part that I don't get. They're presenting it as a documentary, but it is clearly not a documentary.

I would much prefer if they just did a scripted drama using the "dramatized events" as source material.

It's clearly all fake. And they didn't even do a good job with wardrobe, as the supposedly Amish clothing is obviously all store bought (check out the buttons on the guys' shirts, for instance).

Fake fake fake.

Oh - Amish use cell phones. All the time. They're not "connected" to the world (which is why they can't have a telephone in their home), and they can't charge them in the house (they can charge them in the barn if they have electricity there, or have an English neighbor charge them, or charge them in the phone shack at the road), but they certainly can and do use them. Hard to do business without a phone, and the Amish are great business people.
