That's good to know. With this series, you can't take that for granted.

That would be great, to sign an actor to 6 years (but in the contract it says that if he is killed off on the show the contract of done) but tell him that it's only for 2 or 3 years. So everyone THINKS he will be there for 6 years and really surprised when he is killed in 2 years.

In addition to this news is the fact that we all should expect 10 episode seasons every time. Bah!

"I would say that, going forward, 10-episode seasons are really all that are possible, given our 12-month [production] cycle," Weiss said. "For this show specifically, it's really all we can do to do 10 of them in a year. I would say not to expect more than 10 a season any time in the near future ... We had always planned on a 10-episode season [for the show's third year]."

It's also important to realize that a six-year contract means that the actor is committed to the show for six years, not that the show is committed to the actor. So they can kill him off at any time.

And they may well plan to kill him after Season 3 (random example), but still give him the standard six-year contract, because who knows what will happen? Maybe he character will become super-popular, or maybe the actor who was supposed to take over as lead in Season 4 dies, or whatever. It costs the studio nothing to lock down the actor, and gives them options that they m not have if the contract is tied to the length they originally planned the character to be around.

Now, I'm not saying Tyrion dies or lives for any length of time. I'm just saying that contract is a business deal that is not necessarily tied to the writers' specific plans.
