HIMYM S07E20 "Trilogy Time" 09 Apr 2012

Wow---seems like they really locked themselves in there.

IIRC, the show is renewed for next season. But now if they get renewed again, Ted will have to have a baby...

I'm not as enamored of back boob as Barney is.

Funniest joke was when Ted said that there must be something wrong with him.

Other than setting a timeline for when Ted had a kid, it was a snoozer.

Only impressive thing was Barney answering the door naked and appearing less than a second later fully dressed. I replayed it a few times and could not spot the jump cut. I eventually decided it was a split screen with the door side doing the cut, but it was pretty darn clean for a TV show.

Yeah, other than the baby thing, this one was pretty lame...and I'm not usually one to complain.

I am with others that this was a bad episode. I think this may be the worst episode to date. It did have a chuckle moment here and there but overall it was just horrible.

Not necessarily. He has the baby in 2015, so next year is 2012-2013 season, and the season after that is 2013-2014. So they have TWO years until he has to have the baby. My guess is that, if they get renewed beyond next season, he meets the mother 2 seasons from now. Perhaps that was the plan the whole time.

Can we be sure it was Ted's baby and not Barney's (who will be married before Ted) or Marshall and Lily's?

Anyone see a ring on Barney's hand in 2015?

I liked the episode. I enjoyed all the ways they saw their future juxtaposed with the real timeline.

Note, no Robin in the present time. In the last episode Ted said we wouldn't see Robin for a long time. So the writers did a good job of having her in the show while getting around the fact that we aren't supposed to see her.

I dunno. I thought it was cute. I liked it a lot.

I thought the show ends next year?

Actually, IIRC Ted said that he didn't see Robin for a long time.

We did indeed see her in the present time---at the beginning of the episode, Barney was sitting in the booth next to Lily and across from Robin while he told them the coffee cup story.

I don't think there actually IS a plan or HAS been a plan for quite some time. I think there's been concepts and ideas, but as for a plan, I'm not so sure. This is a show that has been very good at putting in pieces that come back later (sometimes years), but everything else seems to be a randomly flowing river.

I thought it was fun. Especially since I watch the Trilogy about every three years myself.

I enjoyed it too ... but then again, it had Star Wars in it.

If he's a new father in 2015 that means that he and the mother can meet no later than early to mid 2014. I know they can start making babies as soon as they meet, but would hope that there's some bit of time frame between when they first meet and when the family making begins. They can still go next season without them meeting, but they have to meet the season after that.

This episode mirrored a lot of pessimism I've been feeling lately, so it really hit home.

Put me in the "liked it" camp. I love when this show gets creative with flashbacks and timing. I thought the way they structured this one was pretty great. My only complaint was that I didn't see a "sandwich" in the 2000 flashback (although there was a giant "sandwich" in the 2003 fantasy).

I got the feeling that they had already eaten it.

Oh, there had definitely been "sandwich" consumption in that flashback. But they're usually pretty explicit about it and show the "sandwich" in those scenes, so I wanted to see it.

I also forgot to mention all the newspapers they showed in the fantasy segments, with Al Gore, Howard Dean, and Dennis Kucinich being president in 2003, 2006, and 2009 respectively. I didn't notice if there was one in the 2012 fantasy segment.

It wasn't their greatest episode, but I was entertained. I liked looking at all the newspaper headlines in their flash-forwards. Ted is definitely a democrat! There was at least 1 flash-forward where I couldn't read the headline, it was always blocked by a character.

Yes, it said something like: "Country regrets giving Bush surprise 3rd term"

From memory, the first three were something like:
Quote:
President Gore Signs Historic Bill Into Law
Quote:
President Dean Casually Addresses Nation
Quote:
President Kucinich Kicks Ass, As Expected

The Dean was something like "President Dean Calmly Addresses Nation"... basically making fun of the speech that derailed his campaign.

That's what it was. I couldn't read the word that started with C but I knew it was a jab at "The Scream."
