American Idol - Top 13 Perform - OAD 3/7/12
Girls (Whitney Houston) vs Guys (Stevie Wonder) - one of each goes home tomorrow.
Just a few thoughts but I'm not updating every performance because most of them are boring me.
Joshua Ledet. UGH. Am I the only one that is annoyed by this guy? He just does weird runs and sounds really mush mouth to me.
Wow, I'm shocked by how much I loved Colton singing Lately. That was fantastic. Randy is right, it wasn't perfect but I didn't care, I loved it.
Girl just butchered I Have Nothing. Wow that was so bad.
DeAndre and that hair. Someone either cut if off or boot him off because I cannot stand him flipping it around every 15 seconds, even tied back he manages to flip that crap around more than any girl I know. He sounded decent though. Way better than last week.
Awww I loved Heejun too! That was great! He's really getting better on the enunciation too. He sounded beautiful, his tone is just fabulous.
Jessica owns this competition. It's totally hers to lose. We might just have a girl winner again after what... 5 seasons of guys?
Phillip Phillips gets the pimp spot. LOVE his version of this. I know people complained about his audition but come the F on, this boy is amazing. I really hope he stays clear of DMB songs because right now he's making songs his own and being his own person. I love that! Still my favorite.
No idea who should go home, there's quite a few to pick from IMO. I guess maybe Shannon for the girls and Jeremy for the guys.

I'm not impressed with anyone this year. I think america has run out of Idols. I mean some are good, but nobody is wowing me.

They definitely gave their two favorites the two final positions.
My thoughts:
The girls outclassed the guys by a mile!!!
Jessica may have sung herself into the finals tonight.
My favorite performances of the night were
Jessica Sanchez, Skylar Laine, Erika Van Pelt and Hollie Cavanagh.
For the guys I think Colton may have won the night for me.
Who were at the bottom for me?
Deandre
Shannon (which is a shame cause she can belt it out)
Heejun - I was bored with his song.
Elise Testone - Not awful but not up to the other girls standards.
Jermaine - The low voice does not do it for me.
Who do I think is going home? Shannon - they pretty much sealed her fate with the criticism. I thought she had some good moments but they just ran her down too much on tonight's show.

Oh and just to be contrary, Phil was good but I don't think he killed it. Love his energy though.

Loved Jessica - I still think she is the one to beat.
I liked Joshua, Erika, Heejun and Skylar.
I still don't understand Phil.
The rest are just a big mush - no one else is very memorable.
Frankly, they could save a lot of time and just give Jessica the prize and give us more episodes of Fringe. But that's just me.

I have a feeling you, like me are not a Dave Matthews fan either. I get that Phil is good at what he does but what he does really isn't my thing. It's obvious though that they are giving him some love.

Jessica and Phillip were the standouts, with Jessica way ahead. She's got this season in the bag. I'd send Deandre home, but the judges seem to enjoy his crappy performances so we will probably lose a girl, Shannon or Erica.
Phillip Phillips really? Creative parents.

Jessica gave me goosies.
Seriously. She did. I really thought she killed it. By the way... Does anyone know who the Mustachioed guy on Randy's Jacket was? There's an "H" on his head... Guy looks familiar.

Phil needs to carve out his own identity apart from Dave Matthews. He's good but I don't care yet because I feel like I've seen his "character" before. I feel like he'd do better in a band with some violins and fiddles (sound familiar yet?).
Shannon seems like she's at a beauty pageant.
I liked Skylar, Jessica, Colton, and HyeJun(sp?) the most.
Can we just skip to the finale and give it to Jessica? I've only been watching since the Carrie Underwood season, but would it be crazy to say this was the best Idol performance ever?

I didn't notice that it was him, but someone famous with an H on their head would be Arnold Rimmer from Red Dwarf...
Jessica earned the fist (and only so far) rewind for a relisten for us. I also think Shannon could go, but DeAndre and Jeramy won't be far behind her based on last night's performances.

I'm afraid Shannon will be going home (though that wouldn't be unjustified based on last night's performances), but they could also get rid of DeAndre, Colton, or Jermaine and I wouldn't have any problem with that.
Anyone else feel that the "bottom guy versus bottom girl and the judges decide which one goes home" is just their way of guaranteeing that there will be six guys and six girls at the end of the night? And I hope the judges can do the elimination without having to have 'save your life' performances.

Colton and Philip are the only guys that have a prayer of winning this thing. The girls are more up in the air as I can see Jessica, Erika, or Hollie all with potential to win.

All of this but I would add Hollie in there too. As soon as they said the girls would be singing Whitney Houston, I was getting goosies in anticipation of Jessica, who I knew was going to be amazing. She was even better than I thought she'd be. I just hope she didn't peak this week.

Disagree. I thought it was a perfect song choice for him and he was the best guy of the night. Staying power? Dunno, but tonight he crushed.

Umm no. She was super duper fantastic, don't get me wrong... but IMO I can name at least 5 performances since season 1 that were better.
1. Natural Woman - Kelly Clarkson
2. I Who Have Nothing - Jordan Sparks
3. Whipping Post - Bo Bice
4. Billie Jean - David Cook
5. What A Wonderful World - Anwar Robinson

Tons of forgettable boring performances last night.
William Hung Jr. needs to go home. Actually William Hung was a bit more energetic and memorable.
SKunk Boy. No, just no.
Now to the good.
Just forget the rest of the shows and lets do the finals between Jessica, Hollie (small blond?), and Phillip.
As soon as they announced the guys were singing Stevie Wonder I literally said outloud that Phillip would be doing Superstitious. He was great. But you have to give Jessica her props. She took the show. And I don't even like that kind of music. You just can't deny her talent. Hollie was very very good.
I'm still rooting for Phillip until the end.

The only thing that scares me about everyone saying "just send Jessica to the finals" is that last year at this time many people said the same thing about Pia.
And when was the last year that the best singer in the final 12 or 13 actually won, certainly not the last few years since I have been watching.

The last time I personally have felt this sure of a winner was the Carrie Underwood season. I called her as the winner from the audition stage.
Jessica has the same vibe - and an even better voice IMO. I don't think there is any way she can't win.

NBD. Could be me. I said in the other thread I think the girls are better than the guys, and at least the top 3 were girls tonight. (Jessica/Hollie/Erica). I am not a DMB fan, so Philip has no traction with me. Top 5 probably though. I just hope the two hair clowns (Colton and Deandre) are gone soon.

I have only been wacthing the last few seasons so I don't have that kind of history. I certainly don't believe Scotty Mcreary and Lee Dewyze were the best singers in their seasons.
Of course I am still sore that Crystal Bowersox did not win over Lee.

No it wouldn't be crazy at all. It was certainly the best I have ever heard on this show. Jessica Sanchez is a very special singer. Simply amazing.

That little three note ascending run she did at the end of the song was brilliant.

Even when Jennifer Hudson did it at the Grammy's (a great rendition to be sure) she didn't even try to sing it in the Whitney key with the full Whitney melody, because she doesn't have those mezzo-soprano chops. Man, I couldnt stand David Cook, whatever year or season that was. He sucked the life out of soulful songs with his forced "Hey Im a rock guy" moody vocal grit thing.
The only reason I remember him at all is because for a few years they had "Home of American Idol David Cook" on I-70. Saw it every time I drove through Blue Springs MO.
