Shameless 3/4/2012 "Parenthood"
What an image with Sheila sitting on Frank's mom, "your mother has passed". Louise Fletcher has been a bright spot on this ho-hum season so far.
Glad to see Lip finally show some emotion on not wanting to be the golden child for the family he just wants to contribute.
Karen is a piece of work. Can't wait to see what her mom thinks of her selling the baby.

The Sheila scene was probably the best of the whole series! Loved it!!

Pleasantly surprising that Frank had no qualms with his son being gay.

What would he gain from caring?

Exactly. Frank will care when it is something that he can use against him.

I don't get why the tough guy decided not to kill Frank and instead got himself arrested. What was up with that?

He wants to go back to prison (he's on parole), presumably where men can be men, together, without stigma.

He didn't want to admit to his brothers he couldn't go through with it, or the real reason he wanted to kill him.

I'd hate to see the demise of Frank's mom. I can't help thinking, in my twisted mind, that maybe she's not all the way dead. What a great character and what a great actor.
I think I'm with Rob on the 'tough guy' deal. He's tired of fighting it and it seemed to me almost like he realized how far he had gone off the pier with his urgency to kill Frank. That wasn't going to change anything. Or - maybe I'm reading too much into this character. ha!

And he probably figures that there's nothing for Frank to blackmail him for while he's in jail; so his secret is likely somewhat safe.

I don't know that Lip is the family golden child, per se. He wants to step up, like Fiona stepped up. However, she is in a position to know that dropping out makes it harder to do such a thing in the long run. She's having to turn down jobs that can give her a career. Lip is trying to do the right thing by his possible child. He's kind of caught between a rock and a hard place. He really wants that baby, I think, but is afraid to say so.
I don't think the family views him as their ticket out of there. I think they just want him to succeed for himself.
I found it interesting that Steve's/Jimmy's wife is now being translated for us - that they aren't sleeping together really, and that she thinks that his interest in Fiona and her family is altruistic. Why did she marry him in the first place?
Go Sheila! She's changed, as a character, this year. It's interesting to see the growth of her character. And less foot sex/pegging.

I assume it's an immigration thing...

I got the feeling they are sleeping together and she was lying to her boyfriend back home.

Except when they got married, I don't think he planned on coming back for a while. Maybe just a gold digger?

Wasn't it discussed that the marriage was staged for some reason? To get her to America away from the drug cartel or something like that? Or am I just totally misremembering?

If I remember correctly she is a mob bosses daughter in Brazil. He married her so she could get dual citizenship to help her fathers operations in the US. Steve owed her father a favor.

I must have slept through part of that explanation. For some reason, it didn't stick with me.
