The way of "fixing" it is to get cable cards.

I highly doubt that your cable company doesn't provide cable cards. If that's true, then I guess they have to add PSIP data properly into the stream. There was "one guy" who post(ed) here who used to get full guide data from one provider without cablecards.. but then at some point it stopped working.

Basically -- there's a huge clear QAM thread where many of us have wanted this for a long time... but it ain't gonna happen. You need cablecards.

Who knows, you MIGHT be able to get a cablecard off of eBay just for clear QAM channels.. but if your cable company doesn't use cable cards, then that presumably won't work. You'd have to find out how their own cable boxes decode though.

Ya i have seen the cards on ebay and they are not very expensive,
which is good but Cogeco Cable in Ontario Canada doesnt use them so its a gamble getting one and would take some research on how to get it to work.....
If anyone who has Cogeco Cable and is using a cable card please leave comment...
thanks

I don't have cable (and probably never will), but I've helped friends install cable boxes from a local cable company, and their own boxes used cable cards. So you might go down to your local office and ask to see one of their STBs or DVRs to see if it has a cable card installed.

In order to get Cable Cards purchased from eBay to work, they have to be put into your systems database due to encryption. They won't just work out of the "box" so to speak.

Time Warner Rochester won't provide a CableCard with Basic

We use Basic Cable at our summer house and would like the schedule info, but TW Rochester has refused to provide a Cable Card (at their usual small fee) for Basic Cable, requiring Digital Cable as a minimum. TiVo should really deal with this -- the cable companies have no incentive to provide a card without the revenue boost of digital.

The only way a E-Bay cable card will work is if it is from your own cable co in your area and had been paired once, it has to have the same cable map as your cable system. You can't get the HBOs type channels but you can get most of the rest. This has happened to me when i have switched cable cards between an old TiVo and new TiVo before I got Comcast to pair the card. The cable guy did tell me that the cards have a built in timer and will run 30 to 45 days without pairing, then shut down. I fixed a friends TiVo from another cable co and using his CC on my system the TiVo would just say acquiring channels and it never got any channels, even after running it overnight. The card was the same model my cable co used.

The way around that problem is to subscribe to Digital for one month then drop it and keep the cable card. They will bill you the rental.

You can also file an FCC complaint. If the channels in your package require a CC to access, they are required to rent one to you.

But what if he can see the picture OK, and the only thing that doesn't work is TiVo's guide?

Argument to make to the FCC (assuming you're in the U.S.): Obviously if I ask for a cable card then I require it to access the cable programming properly, since no one would volunteer to pay the (small monthly) fee unless there was some benefit to doing so.

Why bother filing an FCC complaint? Cogeco, the OP's cable provider, is in Canada.

The problem hear is with TIVO not the cable company,
I have a HD HomeRun which i use with my PC and all the Qam channels come up with Guide info ...
There is a reason why i have clear qam channels and I there is no reason why the tivo box cant pull in the info
especially when my windows media center can do it...

Tivo needs to fix this issue period...

And thats the bottom line cause the Fraisa Man Said so...lol

I'm not familiar with the HD HomeRun. Could it be using PSIP data to show info for QAM channels? Does ZAP2it.com show correct guide info for the channel numbers you're viewing with Windows Media Center?

Bottom line is it is not Tivos Fault. Tivo never claims to link QAM Data to the Guide. Tivo only links Antenna Guide info and the Cable Companys through a cable card.

If that's true, why does anybody ever sell cable cards on eBay? Is it JUST another sucker born every minute?

Plus, my cable card currently isn't paired. I still get the expanded basic channels.. I'm not getting the premium channels though. (Even the expanded basic channels would put up the "call your cable company" for a few times after boot.. but eventually that goes away.)
