When did they offer $3.99 monthly service? I have $6.95 service on one box, but I have not seen a lower amount.

Maybe it's a former employee of TiVo as I don't know what discounts TiVo gives to its employees, but i would not think it could xfered in any case.

Someone's gonna get scammed on this deal, the only way I even see it being remotely possible is what someone else said which is if the TiVo account goes with the auction. Other than that, the lowest price I've ever seen is the $6.95 that's on my Elite.

I think that Tivo employees get "lifetime" Tivos (or at least one), but a special kind of lifetime that's not supposed to be transferrable (i.e. to another account). It's come up in the past.

I assume employees TiVo's status is the same as the promotional TiVos that have been given away are are set to 11: Evaluation. Which is basically lifetime but TiVo can easily disable it and probably wouldn't transfer it without much hassle. In this case, I don't think the eBay user plans on transferring the account other than just giving the buyer access to the account. Otherwise, it clearly isn't going to be transferred by TiVo.

Perhaps they tried to cancel their service and were offered this deal to remain a customer. I have heard of similar things happen (but not that exact deal).

TiVo gave me the option of transferring my $6.95 plan to a new owner even if they didn't have another TiVo for the MSD discount. I could see this being real.
