HD Upgrade

Upgraded my HD in my Series three with a 2TB drive. But it locks up every few hours.

It's a seagate drive. 5200 RPM.

Wondering what the recommendation is for a drive that TiVo will handle?

Thanks.

I'm assuming that you used the recommended JMFS procedures to image the drive. There have been a number of posts here re: Seagate drives having issues. The best luck seems to be had with Western Digital drives but the Green drives usually need to have WDIDLE run on them before imaging. Check the Upgrade Forum.

Thanks. Will return for WD.

I did follow the directions verbatim.

The upgrade thread that is stickied seems outdated. They don't include 2TB drives and a lot of the information is kind of old.

I did read it, but due to it's outdated nature, I posted this thread.

Installed a DvR_Dude 2TB drive in my S3 (oled) about 6 months ago. There have been no problems with it locking up.

However, some times the remote commands get slow and there is some hesitation of picture and sound. But self resolve after a few seconds.

I suspect that 2TB internal mod taxes the S3 infrastructure causing the small issues I've seen.

What brand and model drive did DVR_Dude supply?

I have purchsed 2 HDD's from DVR_DUDE, both were 2TB WD Green drives.
One for my THD and one for my Premiere, both are whisper quiet and work great.

Some form of Western Digital drive.
Probably the same as the above post.

This is kinda off the topic a bit but I'm hoping you can answer this for me.

I'm in the process of upgrading my S3 (not newer HD, but the older S3, first generation LED display S3) from a 1TB to a 2TB and I noticed you said you had a "S3 (oled)". Is that the first s3 or is that the S3 HD one?

I'm just trying to figure out if I can upgrade from a 1TB to a 2TB. Some of the Series threads say it isn't possible.

TIA

The original (first) Series 3 Tivo is the one with the OLED display on the front.

And IIRC, there are no DIY upgrade solutions for a 2TB hard drive.
You can use a 2TB hard drive with WinMFS, but the S3 will not use all of the space.

If you want a true 2TB hard drive for the S3, you have to get one from DVR Dude or Weaknees.
