Bright house cable and tivo series 1+2

With brighthouse and series 1 or 2 tivo which digital cable box do you need from the cable co.?

They said I would need the $8 box which I think comes with a guide. Is there a less costly box to rent to be compatible with the older tivo and digital cable?

Any help much appreciated.

Have you verified that the cable only transmits digital channels? My cable (Suddenlink, formerly Cox) transmits three sets of channels: analog SD, digital SD, and digital HD. That means no cable box needed for my remaining analog TV. If you have digital only channels then I would think that a simple digital to analog converter box would work if you have the proper Tivo serial IR cable to change the channel.

You can use any digital box which has RF or A/V out. A/V out would be preferred.

The DTA box (if they have them), will have RF out only, no guide, and only get basic channels.

The "advanced box" will have A/V out, guide, and be able to be subscribed to all SD channels.

By now, all analog channels will be simulcast in digital SD, so you don;t need to worry about them, unless you want to keep dual tuners on an S2DT.

Best Buy has a couple and I'm sure that they would also be avaiable through Amazon and eBay. I was looking for one for my daughter and posted a WANTED ad on my local Freecycle site. Got one for free. Or check Craigslist. There are probably millions of them now collecting dust in closets across America.

Are you referring to the Coupon Eligible Converter Boxes for converting digital OTA broadcasts to analog for older TVs?

Those won't work for cable broadcasts, if that is what you need.
