Help with Closed Captions

I have a Tivo Premier XL (Time Warner Cable Card) attached to a Sony Bravia HX800.

If I turn CC on in Tivo, they appear as they should on the Bravia.

The TV's internal options include turning CC on when sound is muted. When selected, nothing happens. I tried turning the CC on AND off via Tivo. Neither setting affected the TV's own CC setting...

I'd like to see CCs only with the TV is muted. Does anyone have any suggestions for making this work?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Stephen

Using HDMI, CC is turned on only from the Tivo, the TV has no affect.

Yes, I am connected via HDMI. And Tivo doesn't have a CC on mute option. It's either on or off. Right?

Yes, and TV through HDMI does not have CC.

I've missed the CC-on-mute option also. TiVo really should add it, although they probably have plenty of more important stuff ahead of it. And I guess they would have to intercept the mute command sent to the TV.

Well, they already 'see' the mute command (since you can see the Tivo light flicker even when you use the TV remote commands).. Though I think this could get out of sync fairly easily (what if you aim very carefully at the TV and the Tivo doesn't see it?)

If the TiVo also recognizes the volume up and volume down commands as "mute off", that could be used to re-sync if the toggle gets reversed.
