Question What happens when you don't pay the monthly bill?

by the "service interruption" deadline. Other than not getting guide updates, that is. Do you instantly lose any discounts (I have $6.95 MSD)? What happens if you missed a month or three and restarted service? Can you restart without penalty?

Yes. If you let the service lapse you will lose you $6.95 MSD discount. (they will charge you $9.95 if you reactivate) Also if you're under any sort of contract you could be charged an early termination fee. In addition when you restart the service you will start a new 1 year contract for service, so if you cancel or lapse within that year you will be charged an early termination fee.

Tivo will shut the box off for new scheduled recordings

If the Tivo is connected to the phone line or internet, then Tivo will shut off the ability to record TV.(except if the Tivo is an older Series 1 box)

Another member mentioned that Tivo beat him up fairly badly when he didn't make his payment. I haven't been able to find the thread though.

I remember that thread. He said they turned him over to collections after missing just two payments.

The Tivo I hardly ever use lapsed about 6 months ago due to an expired credit card. By the time i realized it was about 35 days past due. I reactivated and was able to retain the $6.95 price.

True. But I was also then eligible to use the customer upgrade program and get a discounted Premier Box while keeping the $6.95 subscription.

tivo.com won't let me log in. It claims my email address or password is not recognized. Is this because my account is past due? If so that's hardly the best way to assure yourself of payment.

I had one lapse for an expired credit card and the other thing I ran into is that while one uniit was in "past due" status I was unable to make any changes to any other TiVos until I corrected the situation on that one.

Doesn't work, it claims it doesn't know my email address. I'm quite sure I could log in a couple of months ago.

My Father had a $6.95/MSD TiVo. He let it lapse for a month or so due to an expired credit card and when we finally fixed the situation MSD had jumped to $9.95/mo. Maybe you caught it just in time and he didn't.

Sound like time to call 'em on the phone before your situation deteriorates further.

Checking my Billing History and email I re-activated the day I got an email from Tivo informing me that my service had been de-activated. I re-activated on-line.

all the more reason to get lifetime

Then U don't have to worry about the bill, or going to collections, and U also don't have to worry that Tivo will allow someone to steal your credit card info from Tivo like they allowed your email addresses and name to be stolen.
