American Idol "Top 12 results show" 3/17/2011 *spoilers
Here we go.
Top 12 Group performance. Wow this was a pretty bad group song. Most are pretty bad but this was off somehow.
Ford music video...
250 million music downloads generated since Idol started 10 years ago.
Results time:
Casey is safe.
Jacob is safe.
Lauren is safe.
Paul is safe.
Haley is in the bottom 3.
Lee Dewyze performance.
More results:
Scotty is safe.
Pia is safe.
James is safe.
Stefano is safe.
Naima is in the bottom 3.
Thia is safe.
Karen is in the bottom 3.
Black Eyed Peas performance.
Final results:
Naima is safe... Wow a bit of a surprise.
Haley is safe.
Karen will sing for the save.
Save will not be used. Was not a unanimous decision. I'm guessing JLo voted to use it, just a guess.

Have fun watching commercials. I'll check in later, after I watch it in 30 minutes.

That was really sad. I assume that Jennifer wanted to save her. Her rendition of Hero was absolutely beautiful; however, nothing else she's sung has blown me away so I guess it was the right decision.

Bad choice. Karen was not going to make it to the end but she had a good enough voice that she should have outlasted several others.
I'm just stunned that Paul has turned in awful performances the last two weeks and somebody keeps voting him through. He deserved to be in the bottom three. Unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat I will get increasingly annoyed the longer he stays in.
The judges did make the right choice though not to save. I think they are saving it in case James, Casey, Pia or Scotty get voted off prematurely.

Didn't someone say the Paul had some sort of fan base from a band he's in or something?

And Paul lives to sing another week.
And we have to listen to him.
Ugh.
Karen needed to go at some point - surprised it was this soon, but it was inevitable.
I'm glad Haley is still in it - I think she is a lot better than they give her credit for (especially Randy, who has some kind of major bug up his ass about her).
All the girls are going to need to go except for Pia and Lauren. I think it will be the other girls getting picked off over the next few weeks, unless enough people wake up and dump Paul during that time as well.

I like Paul...he's different and if you don't watch him his voice is fine. Karen going home is fine with me...

Can a girl win this show anymore? Not a single guy has hit the bottom 3 yet.
My favorites this year:
Haley - Hot. Sexy, sultry voice. Not a good combination to get the votes, but enjoying for the next week or two.
Paul - Very cool voice, a natural movement on stage and would be at home as the lead singer of a rock band. * This week his voice was very weak but he gets one free pass since he was sick. Could go far but will drop off my favorite list if he can't add more power behind his vocals.
Lauren - Clean her up, put her on the Kelly Clarkston diet, give her top notch vocal coaching. She is the only contestant that could actually sell a few million records if she won. But she's a girl, no chance to win. Bring on the next Lee Dewyze 100k seller.
Non-favorites:
Jacob - Gospel gymnastics is not my thing. Safe for a long time though.
Stefano - Could be a late bloomer and go very far. On AI, it is not good to peak early because you battle your past performances and haters that pull for the underdog. He could be in the sweet spot. I hate his style but would not be surprised if he wins it all.
Scotty - One note wonder again, no chance of being voted off for a while. Has the country voting block.
Pia - Does she sing the same Vegas show song every week? She will start to annoy the masses very soon. May be the first major shocker vote off and save candidate.
No problem with Karen being voted off, voice better than others but her look in style did her in. Too into the ethic thing.

I have watched every season and I couldn't remember him when Ryan announced he was going to be on the show. He just disappeared. I can't imagine any caring about him.

Are we really supposed to believe the judges are deciding whether or not to execute the "save" during the final song?

Last season was the first time I bailed on the show in the middle of the season - that is how boring and bland the contestants were. I didn't care about any of them.
In comparison, this year they have a lot more diverse talent, which is keeping it interesting.

They're probably talking about where to go for drinks after the show.

This.
I watched the finale last year. Before that, I probably skipped about 7 or 8 weeks of shows. Total snorefest. To the extent these judges had any real role in picking the contestants this year, they did a better job than the old crew did last year (and probably better than the old old crew did the year before, too).
Lee was an absolute snore last night.
The people left in the competition this year that I care about are James and Pia. Thia and Casey are on the bubble. Paul is interesting but I don't really care about him. Scotty is good but I don't really care about him either (just not my genre of music). Everyone else can go.
And, while we can all have theories about who really decides when to use the save and when, I wouldn't put it past the judges to have the level of laziness required to wait until they get on the air to do it.

I think Seasons 7 and 8 were the best seasons possible.
For me it's just not going to get any better.

I think they simply have a list with checkmarks beside those names they would use the save on.
And I think there are very few checkmarks.

100% agree. No surprises there. The last performance won't save them and the judges aren't debating.
The check marks may change each wed night, but there would be no actual judges drama during the final song for each singer.

Do you think the judges know who is voted off prior to the show?
I do.
So, yeah - they have already decided if they are using the save or not before the show even begins. And yet they make the performer beg for another chance.
It's embarrassing.

That whole group song is beyond terrible. If I had heard that on a cruise ship I would have walked out, let alone from the supposed top AI singers.
I remember in years past many were complaining about the sound quality of the shows, it seems to me that this season is the worst ever in regard to whoever is mixing the sound.
When I hear one of the judges say "I watched your performance again on tape last night and you were pitchy..." it makes me assume that things must sound better in the room, BUT THIS IS A TV SHOW, why aren't they making SURE it sounds it's best for the millions watching instead of the hundreds in the studio?

I agree even the "pros" sounded horrible. Must be some new mics or something.
