Question How to connect new LED tv to series 2 TiVo box

I just purchased a new Sharp LED tv and am not sure how to connect my Series 2 TiVo to it. The manual does not show the RWY cables.

Look in the manual. I'll bet that the red(?) component input also doubles as composite (yellow cable) video. I didn't realize that on mine.

//So glad I invested heavily in S-Video cables, convertors, and switchers.

It's on page 14 of your TV manual. To connect composite sources (YRW), you need a special cable that converts the three RCA plugs for your S2 output (Yellow/Red/White) to a three band mini headphone jack that plugs into the port labeled Input 2 on your TV.

Dumbest design choice ever, but that's where you're at.

Reading this past makes me weep. Plugged an S2 into a brand new HDTV. That's like putting a 4 banger from a Yugo in a Ferrari.

Depends on the S2 and the TV set. The DVD player S2s are better and have component out. Good TV sets have good scalers and can make the most of that signal. HD, no, but very passable SD as good as any SD program material on your favorite HD channel.

Not any dumber than them calling an LCD TV with an LED backlight an "LED TV". But, whatever. Of course, agreed about the composite input- what insanity! Connecting everything with so many choices is hard enough for consumers without them pulling that kind of crud.

Yeah, but the SD stuff that many cable companies push out is really, REALLY horrible, no matter what you try to do to the signal. When plugged into a big HDTV, yeesh...

Why don't you just return that TV for another. No sense in buying a special expensive adapter just for composite Video.

Recently my HDTV gave out and I went to Walmart, all the good TVs of the size I wanted was sold out, got a Sanyo and the sound was bad. Tivo bleeps were blurped. Returned it. I will not go to Walmart ever again to buy TVs.

Finally went to Costco, got a panasonic and it was better. 3 HDMI, 1 component, 2 composite (no S-Video), 1 VGA (sound shared with 1 composite), SD Card photo viewer was a plus.

+1

I bought my last TV from Costco (a Vizio) and have been very happy. They had a great selection, great prices, extended the warranty for free, and stand behind what they sell.

I found that Vizio is made in Taiwan, Sanyo made in China and Panasonic made in Japan.

What's made in USA nowadays?

Are you kidding or serious? Almost zero consumer electronic devices are made in the USA.

Seriously, I googled "where is [brandname] made."

Even though they have "sharpusa.com", they are made in japan.

What you need to do is get rid of the Series 2, use your upgrade price to get a $470 or so lifetimed TiVo Premiere. See the upgrade thread and buy a $90 or so 2TB drive, and you can pretty easily upgrade that to 300 hours of HD goodness.

The Series 2 is nearly dead. Put it out of its misery.

I suppose your right. Viewing distance also makes a big difference. My point is not to assume that everyone will have a bad time with it. I don't. I agree it CAN be horrible, but it isn't necessarily so. If the guy can get decent use out of the S2 until he is ready to upgrade, he should be aware of the option.
