Premiere New UI with Parental Controls?

Hi all, I've searched the forums but could not find the answer, so thought I would start a new thread: Can you now use the NEW UI with Parental Controls?

I have two young kids and my wife and I watch lots of "non-kid friendly" programs. The new UI really looked good and I bought the Premiere, only to find out that I cannot use Parental Controls with the new UI. So basically I have a Tivo S3 with more storage and the same old (good but tired) UI. On the plus side, the Premiere has been more reliable than my S3, but it sure seems un-Tivo-like to make such a basic mistake.

Has Tivo released new software that allows you to use the new UI along with Parental Controls?

One of my biggest gripes with the Premiere that TiVo does not call attention to is the fact that they took the Parental Controls out of the HD UI - its a BIG deal in houses with kids and responsible parents, but I guess TiVo doesn't care. Actually, since we're one month away from a YEAR since release with virtually no perceptable movement on ANY of the many Premiere issues and missing features present since day one, it's pretty clear there's no guessing required - they DON'T care.

The lack of parental controls is a big deal in my house as well. I wish Tivo would get their act together. They managed to crank out a an ok iPad app, but not enhance their core offering - these actions boggle the mind.

Its worse than you might think. Even if you turn-off the premier U.I., there is a major bug with parental controls that affects Premier and Series 3 units. The U.I. provides for specifying the max acceptable TV rating (PG or TV14, for example) and further filter by each of "D" (dialog) "L" (language) "S" (sex) and/or "D" dialog. The hole is that any filters on the letters only apply to recorded TV, but not live TV. In other words, if you set up parental controls to allow up to TV 14 "L" and or "V" but to disallow "D" and / or "S," then it will allow viewing of *any* live TV 14 show, even if the show is rated TV DS. On the other hand, it will *not* allow viewing of any recorded shows that are rated TV 14 that also include a "D" or "S" in the rating. Its kindof hard to believe that TIVO does not know about this; after all, it is a major hole. Before I figured this out, I had told my kids that they were allowed to watch anything that the TIVO would allow, so long as the TIVO did not prompt them for the parental control PIN. I don't know how many times I walked in on their watching SouthPark and Jersey Shore episodes, and then accused them of somehow hacking the TIVO or doing something to figure out the parental control PIN. They always responded saying the same thing: that the TIVO was not prompting for the PIN; it just let them watch it. I realized that every time it happened it was live TV they were watching, so I experimented with the TIVOs in the house, and sure enough, the parental controls are just not applying the "D" "S" "L" V" filters to live TV shows. Its been VERY FRUSTRATING!

I've since turned-on KidZone, and have found that it basically does work as advertised, but it has at least one but I've found. The Season Pass Manager always displays "No" next to "Allow in KidZone," even after you explicitly set it to "Yes." Nevertheless, the Yes/No setting here does work correctly, its just not possible to tell which is/is not allowed in Kidzone based upon what it displays. There are also some major drawbacks to kidzone. 1)No Guide! Hit the guide button, and nothing happens. 2) No changing the channel by entering the channel number. The only way to change the channel is by using the up/down buttons. Come on!
