Got Comcast digital cable box today..problems

I have a Series 2 dual tuner Tivo. I bought it used, and I think I only got the IR cable (blaster?) with it. Today, I had Comcast installed with a digital cable box. I followed the intructions from the Tivo site online, did the splitter thing, and hooked up the IR blaster thing. Went through the set up, and the Tivo was able to change the channels successfully. When all was done, I seemed to be able to change channels without a problem.

However, I left and then came home to find that now the Tivo wasn't able to change the channels on the cable box most of the time. It was able to do some channels, but not a lot of others, especially the lower numbers that used to be/still are? analog. At any rate, if I get the serial cable, will that improve things?

More info: The box is a General Instrument/Motorola SFT2. Today I did an advanced channel changing procedure trying every code that is recommended for General Instruments. The best that I could do was that the remote could change all channels above 103, but nothing below that. Even though the cabel box wouldn't change to the low channels such as channel 2, the programming coming through was for those channels. In other words, if I used the TV guide to select channel 2, the channel would change even though it wouldn't change on the cabel box. Is that because those low channels are still analog? At any rate, I don't know what to do next!

I've ordered the serial cable. I'm hoping that it will resolve the issue, but if not, are there any other codes to try that would work for sure? Or do I take this box back to Comcast and ask for a different brand if they have it? This must be their ploy to get customers to use their more expensive DRV service!

I think it's working as designed. The Tivo is tuning the analog channels on the second tuner. You want the Tivo to use second tuner for analog channels to keep the first tuner free for the channels that can only be received from the cable box.
