Transfering TiVo with Lifetime Bought with Upgrade Deal to Another Person

I have a Series 2 with Lifetime and 3 TiVoHDs with lifetime. So, I'm eligible for 4 TiVo Premiere with Lifetime upgrade deals (box plus lifetime for $469, plus $180 if you want the XL box). I used one today for a friend who is buying her first TiVo. When the TiVo shows up, can she just create a TiVo.com account and add that TSN to it, or do I have to add it to mine and then transfer it to hers? If the latter, how much of a PITA is it?

Since you did it through TiVo it will already be activated on your account. You may even already see it online though I think that happens once it ships.

Once you get it though I believe you should have no problem doing a conference call transferring it from your account to their account. Both of you will need to speak to them though to verify.

Should she create a TiVo.com account first, or should we do that over the phone? Can she create one if she doesn't have a TSN?

I think she can do it over the phone, but she should be able to register online without a TSN. This way she would already be in the computer, but I don't know that it matters. Worst case chat up a CSR using the online chat tool to see what they suggest.

I called tivo and told them that I wanted to give the new premiere with lifetime to a friend. They told me that they were going to do a " transfer of ownership" and gave me a 12 digit reference number to give to my friend to register the tivo under his name.
