Premiere 4:3 Aspect Ratio Problems
Recently my TiVo Premiere started having problems with the 4:3 aspect ratio. I have a standard 4:3 TV, Premiere is set to "panel" display, and the left and right sides are getting cropped off a bit. This happens on 4:3 programming as well as within the "classic" TiVo menus. I didn't have this problem until recently. Any suggestions on how to correct this? Did a recent service update change things up?

Never seen that before and never seen anyone report that before. If messing with the "aspect" buttons on your Premiere remote and TV do not fix, then power cycle both. I would be more inclined to think it was your TV or the source material.

It's strange, because it worked fine before. Even the program progress bar, when you're fast forwarding/rewinding/paused, is slightly cut off on the ends. Another odd issue is that the panel/full/zoom options don't make any changes to what I see. I'll powercycle and report what happens. By the way, I have a Sony 32 CRT TV from 2001.

It the progress bar is not scaling and is off position, that is even more evidence that it is not the TiVo. It also eliminates the source material. So it is even more likely your TV.

A restart on the TiVo didn't resolve the issue. Though, this issue just sprang up about a week ago. It would be a very odd malfunction to occur out of the blue for CRT (non-HD) TV...

Can anyone with a standard 4:3 aspect ratio TV confirm if they are (or aren't) having a problem with their TiVo Premiere cutting off the left and right sides? You can check by going to the now playing menu (non-HD version) and looking at the channel logos on the right side of your recorded programs. The right half of mine are cut off.
Thanks!

In case anyone comes across this problem, I think I have determined that it is a problem with my TV and not the TiVo. I'm no TV repair person, but I think it has something to do with the "flyback". I suppose after 9 years of service, something had to give with my trusty crt tv...

"Told you so?"
Seriously, glad you found the problem (and shared). You will enjoy having a new, big, HDTV. 9 years was a very reasonable life for a TV.
