TiVo Slide Remote Reaction Time
The Bluetooth TiVo Slide Remote is great, much faster than the IR remote. However, when fast forwarding or fast reversing and then pressing Play, the reaction time adjustment that works fine for the IR remote is too much for the bluetooth remote. It's going back much further than I want. When I'm fast forwarding and I see the show I am watching, I have to wait a half second or so before I press Play.
There should be a different reaction time adjustment for IR and for Bluetooth.

I don't see what you are describing. FF or RW then Play works the same for me as it did with the IR remote.

I don't notice enough difference to matter.
However, TiVo SHOULD allow the user control over the settings anyway. They should allow a LOT MORE user control over many settings...

I'm not saying that the remote is not "working", it's just that since the bluetooth remote gets the Play button press to the TiVo so much faster, I can no longer reliably FF past non-content.

I understand and I'm saying I don't notice any difference. I FF and RW a lot and hit Play when I reach where I want and I don't notice any significant difference between the IR remote and the Bluetooth remote. I start playing pretty much exactly where I want to. Maybe it's a hand-eye reaction time thing.

Yeah, I think you'll have to adjust your reaction time. Or use 30 second skip.

My TiVo slide remote was working fine but now the FF and play buttons (primarily) have two second (or so) latency. Press button, wait two seconds, and it kicks in. The IR remotes don't have this problem. I rebooted (why not?) to see if that would fix it but it did not. I changed the batteries. I unplugged and replugged the receiver. I moved the receiver around. I don't think the cause would be radio interference unless the communication path is two-way; it is unlikely the remote could 'hang on' to my button press for two seconds. More likely it is the TiVo itself that is having trouble.
Any ideas?

I just bought one of these remotes and the response times were good at times and horrible at times. The up and down buttons stuck and in my experience made this remote a POS. Luckily for me my 120 pound dog likes to eat things and he ate the slide. I went back to my trusty Glo remote which he hasn't developed a taste for.

I don't know if I've just gotten less patient, or if my slide has gotten progressively worse, but it now seems unbearably responsive. It feels like ~20% of the time it doesn't respond to button presses at all...even if I have the bluetooth dongle sitting 2 feet away from me. It's really awful when I fast forward through commercials and it takes 5-10 seconds before I can play again, so I end up going through a huge chunk of the show that I then have to rewind through.
I tried replacing the batteries and it seemed to help for a day or two, but now it's back to being bad. Did they really design these things so they fail when the battery power is below 99%?!??!

Over time, I've become rather disappointed by the performance of the Bluetooth remote. As a result, I generally only use it for text searches and the like.

Same here, except it was a 20 pound puppy.

Mine was perfectly fine until 14.7 was released. Then all the stuttering and glitches started. (Unless my memory is wacky- which is entirely possible nowadays)

Thank you to crxssi for the pointer to the other thread. I don't feel so alone in the world now.
Back in the day, I had to buy new remotes for my TiVo 2s because a system update stopped the shipping remotes from working reliably.
Somebody (and by that I mean someone at TiVo) needs to examine their procedures for programming and testing remotes.
For now, I have unplugged the Bluetooth receiver, and I'll just plug it in when I want to type something, or until this issue is resolved.

No problems like that for me. Did you check the remote's battery level? (It's in System Info.)

Hi,
Yes, I checked the batteries. If you read a few posts both in this thread and the other thread, you'll see that it's broken for some people but not for others, and that the problem started with a specific update.

I'm pretty sure (as per the other thread) that the main problem is interference (both for IR remotes and Bluetooth remotes). Moving the receiver around has made a big difference. I had to buy a longer extension cord in order to move the receiver significantly farther away from existing equipment. It's still a little flakey. I still blame TiVo for doing an inferior job with the remotes; my PS3 bluetooth remote doesn't have problems like this and it's right next to the TiVo.

Since DrStephenCW brought this thread up again, as the OP I though I'd update my impressions.
The still think that the TiVo slide remote is great, but the reaction time adjustment being too fast for the bluetooth remote has beome a non-issue for me as I now fast-forward with the 30-second skip feature instead.
I have two stacked HD TiVos, with a large Yamaha A/V and a PS3 in close proximity and have no problems with interference. I even have a WAP above he TV.
I suspect other the doctor has other interference problems or maybe a ground loop problem.
