cable cards compatible?

Are cable cards compatible from one hd tive to the next as long as they are the same model tivo? Do I have to call tivo or the cable company if I buy a different tivo and can I just plug in the cable card? Thanks in advance!

It depends on your cable Co. Most pair the card(s) to a specific receiver (TiVo). Verizon FiOS apparently does not.

In most cases the same card will work in a new TiVo, but you would have to call the cable co and ask them to pair the card with a new device. It can be done over the phone but some providers insist on a truck roll You should not have to call TiVo

just remember if you move up to a Premerie, it MUST be an M Card. An S card from a Series 3 won't work in it.
