Does the Netgear Universal WiFi Internet Adapter work with TiVo?

Hi all,

I am getting my TiVo Premiere from UPS soon and I can't wait as it will be a huge change from my Series 1 TiVo from way back in 2000.

I am wondering if the Netgear Universal WiFi Internet Adapter(WNCE2001) will work with the TiVo Premiere?
Link: http://www.netgear.com/landing/en-us/wnce2001.aspx

Thanks for any info.

It certainly looks like it. They have a Tivo in the picture.

The device appears to be an ethernet bridge, even though they don't use that word. If the unlabeled yellow line in the diagram is an ethernet cable, then yes, it should work.

It would have to be cheaper than the $79.99 prices listed on that site, since the TiVo-branded adapter is $71 and change. http://www.amazon.com/TiVo-AN0100-Wi.../dp/B0036OR924

I got the Netgear Universal WiFi Internet Apapter from Fry's Electronics for only $59.99 and it is b/g/n.
Would it be the same or better than the TiVo Wireless N Network Adapter that is $89.99 at TiVo.com and from Best Buy?

Looks like it's just a wireless bridge. You connect the TiVo to this thing via Ethernet cable. Then you configure the Netgear device to connect to your WiFi network. As far as TiVo is concerned, it thinks it's hooked in via hard wired ethernet.

Too bad this NetGear adapter only supports 2.4 GHz (no 5 GHz). That would be a deal-breaker for me.

Seems this device has only one ethernet port to connect to your HiFi devices. Waste of money. Get a wireless bridge with a couple. If not immediately, you will need them in the future. See also this thread

The Tivo "wireless" connector is sloppy. It connects with an ethernet cable to the Tivo, but has a power wart as well. Hard to set it up so you don't have cables dangling all over the place.

A plug for the Tivo wireless n adapter:

I just moved my THD from the fam room to the bedroom--replaced it in the fam room with a new TP. Fam room is hardwired, bedroom had no ethernet. I have a Netgear WNDR3700 dual band n wireless router. Installed a Tivo wireless n adapter for the THD in the bedroom. WPS setup worked as advertised using the push buttons on both the adapter and the router. And, as hoped since the Tivo adaper is dual band, it connected to the 5Ghz radio...excellent.

Transfers from the THD to the TP are VERY fast...I can initiate a transfer and immediately watch with no wait. When bringing up the progress bar, I can see the transfer moving quicker than the current viewing marker...even enough to skip a couple of commercials after a bit.

Also, my wife and daughter viewed a Netflix movie on the THD with no waits. Can't vouch for the Netflix movie quality but didn't have to wait on the download at all.

With performance like this, I'm extremely happy with the Tivo branded adapter.
