I searched the streambaby and Pytivo threads. Information is either vague, unclear or old.
Goal is to transfer HD programs to a PC. Convert to MP4. I'd like to save some space but also facilitate subsequent viewing on tivo via either pyTivo or Streambaby. MP4s transfer quicker.
I've used VRD4 and Handbrake. For handbrake is use the GUI and use the default Constant Quality (60.78% ) VRD4 I try to set the bitrate at about half.
Does anyone have an opinion regarding which gives the better results? Handbrake seems a little faster.
CLOSED CAPTIONS. Handbrake lets me keep the closed caption information. (soft) I can view the MP4 file in VLC media player. I can turn the captions on or off. Push the mp4 video to tivo and the closed caption information seems to be missing. Am I missing a step? It sounds like I can force the captions (always on).
Is the only (best?) work around getting an srt file and using streambaby? Is there an easy way to extract the cc information from the tivo video to an srt file? I tried T2Sami. It gives me the option to extract the cc but the resulting file is 0.
