"Murder in the First" on TNT

Is anyone watching "Murder in the First" on TNT?

It's one of their new original series, and it reminds me of "Murder One", probably because it's by Bochco... But this covers crimes (with one major one covering the episodes so far), instead of a trial.

I watched the first episode and tried to watch the second. I think I was doing too much multi-tasking and didn't follow it so I cancelled my SP.

each ep is better than the previous

the pilot was "meh", but each of the eps were better than the one before. i'm getting into it, and if it keeps getting better, it might end up being my favorite summer show.

I'm liking it. It's pretty plot-driven (i.e., things often happen very conveniently in order to move things along), and I suspect there's a massive red herring being waved in front of us
Spoiler:
Mark Zuckerberg is far too obviously guilty to be actually guilty
, but the characters are interesting and even if if moves conveniently, it still does move.

By Mark Zuckerberg I assume you mean the boy genius who is under arrest for the murders. If so I totally agree. While he is an obnoxious spoiled brat, he is "too obviously guilty to be actually guilty!!!"

Spoiler:
the "Mark Zuckerberg" guy is an actor from the Harry Potter movies

It's going pretty well. I saw it compared to France's "Spiral" (available on Netflix) and that seems like an apt comparison.

Anyone else still watching this? I don't particularly care for it but there isn't much else on and my wife seems to be enjoying it. She's mainly just staring at Taye Diggs though.

The two lead detectives are turning in terrible performances. I don't know much about Kathleen Robertson but I know Taye Diggs is capable of more. Cromwell is the only one really worth watching (big surprise).

Spoilers below, so read keep reading at your own risk!!!

I will say on last night's episode I saw one of the worst performances I've ever seen by an actor/actress in a serious drama on a prime network. I'm referring to the CTO/CEO, and to the scene with Taye Diggs in the interrogation room, in particular. Just awful. She is an extraordinarily sexy woman but trying to be sultry/sexy in that scene was just comically bad. Her acting strategy for the entire interrogation seemed to be built on opening her eyes wider. Just awful.

And the writing in this episode was awful. Everything involving Strauss, the computer, and the CTO/CEO was unbelievably bad. It was so bad I can't even put it into words. Ugh.

Are the episodes fairly stand-alone or is there a season long theme that makes it difficult to jump in mid season?

It's a single-season story.

I think it's going good, though I agree the two leads are kind of miscast. Yeah, the computer stuff makes me roll my eyes, but that's nothing out of the ordinary for TV.

The interrogation scene (CTO Ivana) was just dumb, period, so I gave a pass to the actors in that one.

It would be rather pointless to jump in the middle. This definitely is not a CBS show.

What I've found odd, ehh, funny maybe, that for such a high profile case they are in a very small courtroom!

I've had this one piling up on the PVR and started catching up recently. I was hoping it would be like Murder One, but it's not. I'll plod ahead, I suppose, because I'm a sucker for a good trial show and Cromwell does those scenes pretty well. Agree with the comment about the court room size, and also is it normal to have what looks like standard letter-sized paper with numbers 1-12 printed on them taped up behind the jury? Wish they'd spent the money they saved on sets and used it to improve the writing. Oh, well.

I was hugely disappointed with the show. With the exception of Cromwell the cast was just terrible. And these aren't terrible actors, but the material or directing couldn't pull a good performance out of them. I think the only thing that would bring me back to this show is if season 2 focused on a new cast.

I actually thought it was good roll for Draco. Showed he's a much better actor than Harry Potter showed.

Clutch, I am with you. We watched several and gave up. It is like they are sitting at a table reading their parts, no action or excitement. It hasn't been renewed and others were, just announced, Major Crimes for instance and Angie Harmon's show is so much better, much more action and good looking cast. You watch TV to SEE stuff, these producers of Murder don't seem to get that part. I think it is over in any case.

I thought it started out pretty good, but the story had no mystery to it and ended up being way too cliche and predictable.

OK, what do you mean? I mentioned Murder One before.

I think it _is_ a lot like Murder One.. but as a cop show, not a lawyer show.
