IFC May Be Considering Airing MST3K!
I am subscribed to a survey group IFC (Independent Film Channel) recently started entitled IFC Insiders.
Well, in their recent survey, they gave a list of cult TV series (among them were Mystery Science Theater 3000 as well as others like The Ben Stiller Show, Pee-wee's Playhouse, The State, The Ben Stiller Show, Mr. Show with Bob and David, and a few others) and then asked which of these you would watch if IFC aired them!
Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but it appears that IFC may be entertaining the thought of reairing Mystery Science Theater 3000. They just redesigned their logo and unveiled a new slogan - "IFC - Always On. Slightly Off." - to denote that they're beginning to air cult comedies and off-kilter original programming as well as the quirky independent films they air also.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this with the fellow MSTies here on the forum. It may be nothing but then again it may be something.
Thoughts?

Airing old episodes would be good.
Restarting production would be even better.
Unfortunately, I don't see the latter ever happening.

Even the former would be tough, due to the ever-present "rights issues" -- IFC would have to pay not only for the old episodes, but also for the movies included therein. I could definitely see them deciding against it for budgetary reasons.

Oh! Yes, yes, yes, yes, please?
The very first SP I ever set was for MST3k, it would record at some weird time in the am on Saturday morning, then I would get up later and watch it, a month later, MST3k was off the air.

I think the guy/s that were part of MST3K are doing RiffTrax online now (sync it up to your favorite movie).

There are two groups doing "riffs" right now. Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy (Tom Servo) and Bill Corbett (Sci Fi-era Crow T. Robot) do Rifftrax.
Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu (Dr. Forrester/Crow T. Robot), Frank Conniff (TV's Frank) , Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester), and J. Elvis Weinstein (Dr. Erhardt/early Tom Servo) all do Cinematic Titanic.
I've seen both and prefer RiffTrax. However, there was something magical about MST3K that neither of these completely capture. I'd love to see more Joel or Mike, Crow, Tom Servo, Gypsy, Dr. Forrester, and TV's Frank, more Invention Exchanges, and more sketches aboard the Satellite of Love.

I'm betting if the RiffTrax guys were offered a chance to do MST3K again they'd jump at it. Not so sure about Joel.
I'd love it if they'd start airing repeats of the old stuff, especially stuff that isn't on DVD/Netflix streaming.

And the latter would be nearly impossible due to right issues, their continuing successor projects, and what still seems to be bad blood between members of the MST3K cast/crew, despite the brief reunion not long ago.

Restarting MST3K would be a great for SyFy. Rights wouldn't be a problem. They already have a library of terrible movies.

I'm not sure if I'd want them to restart MST3K. Re-air old episodes, absolutely...but the show had a great run and was getting a little tiresome (I thought it slipped quite a bit when Trace left).

It would be great to have the old episodes (especially the Joel era) re-air ... IFC Turkey Day Marathon anyone?

Here's where I occasionally check them out
http://www.justin.tv/synthnine9
If you check out the Entertainment section of the site, you can sometimes find some Rifftrax on the weekend.

I think the movie parts were as good as they ever were... sometimes better, IMO. I will agree that the SOL segments were really bad once both Trace and Frank left. Mary Jo was a good writer, but the whole "Pearl, Brain Guy, and Bobo" was just very, very weird (and not in a good way).

Agreed on all points. I mostly skipped the SOL segments in any episode the second time I watched though. However this one always makes me laugh.

I really enjoyed the stuff on the SOL, and, yes, those did drop off quite a bit after Trace left.
