Stargate Universe 06/04/2010 "Incursion"
what a frustrating show...on the one hand, lots of action and even some space shots. On the other hand, we have such lazy writing that they made Colonel young too incompetent to even be a guard in a cemetery...
at least they recognized how stupid they were and had Jack ream him for his incompetence...how hard would it have been to come up with some clever way for the Alliance to get a foothold without the Colonel being a moron
so I'm enjoying the show and at the same time pissed off the whole time I'm watching!
I want the Alliance to stay in some fashion...me likey that commander lady

And these people must have attended the Lost Academy of Communication. Why on Earth wouldn't Dr. Black Canary immediately notify Young that Rush is back?

hell...vent the damn thing and go get Rush once they've passed out but not dead...
catch them one at a time as they come through the gate...SHOOT THEM one at a time as they come flying ONE AT A TIME through the gate...
if Rush is so valuable, disconnect the stones!
Vent the atmosphere before anyone comes through...
do something...anything...remotely intelligent!

But if they vent the atmosphere, there is no doubt that Telford would die!
Oh, that's right, they showed that a person could live through a venting 10 minutes before.

My hunch is that the crazy EM waves that they noticed at the end are connected to Dr. Franklin disappearing in the chair a few episodes back.

one thing I learned from this show is that if you have your hands drenched in blood, all you have to do is wipe them on a shirt and your hands become perfectly clean
I did like the conversation between Young and the Lt. about having to explain his orders to have them followed...

Is it mandatory for all officers to have double digit IQ's???
I'm disappointed in Jack - he was a great tactical leader, but doesn't ring true as a General. Though I did love him balling Young out for incompetence! Sam left two pilots behind?? That wasn't ringing quite true either.
Am I the only one who was praying that Chloe would just die??

The Lt. did have a point though. While Young shouldn't have to explain his orders for them to be followed, he probably should explain what appears to be an illegal order so that it will be followed.
If Young is going to do something that appears to be blatantly illegal (you know, like murder) that the Lt. could potentially be legally bound by the UCMJ to make an effort to prevent, then Young probably should give the Lt a heads-up so he doesn't intervene (as he would be required to do if Young were actually going to kill a prisoner in cold blood) and mess things up.

She had to bug out when she did otherwise the explosion from the planet would have taken her entire ship out.
After the planet blew up, there was no longer anything left of the two 302's or their pilots, so she didn't really "leave them behind" by not going back for them later at that point; there was nothing to go back and get.

You were not.
If Chloe lives though, she better give up some nookie to Eli; he's earned it.

Maybe... I was also thinking that it might be related to Chloe and Eli being off in an unknown portion of the ship. He admitted to randomly pressing buttons earlier when they first got separated from the action - perhaps he turned something on (or off), or perhaps they forced the ship to activate a new section by their presence, taxing other aspects. The Lucien melting seemed to be a failure of the shield, letting in some form of radiation.
The portion of the ship that they cut through looked to be six to eight inches thick - helluva plasma torch...

Yep, I bet Lawnmower man ends up saving the ship.
How'd Eli and Chloe get so far away from the others. Is their route back blocked by areas controlled by the intruders, cause it seems like they are taking a lap inside Destiny...

Why wouldn't Eli carry Chloe on his back? I hope she dies but I think that would be the easier way to carry her worthless butt.
I'm rapidly getting tired of Lt. Scott but Young really should have explained his strategy to him and Wray.
Why did the Lucian Alliance people come flying through the gate? Is that a 9th chevron thing?
It made no sense that TJ didn't immediately tell Young that Rush was Rush again.
I hate two parters!

Why didn't Young put Wray in the room with Telford when he vented it, then not bring her back...

They escaped the hostile forces by getting on what Eli called an "elevator". Afterwards when they looked out the window to see where they were, Eli said "I guess the elevator does more than go up and down."

No, they're just on a completely flung off area of the ship relative to where everyone else is. Apparently the ship is huge and they've only been occupying a small portion of it.

A fireman's carry is the easiest, but really uncomfortable for the one carried.
A piggyback carry would have been problematic as it would have aggravated the mid-thigh wound she had.

In Stargate SG1 wasn't one of the best things about 302s is that they could do warp drive, or FTL, or whatever its called?

The way he was carrying her, it looked like his left hand was supporting her thigh very near the wound.

I think the 302s did get away from the blast. The question is where?

Hyperdrive, and I don't think they could.
EDIT: okay, looking at the stargate wiki, it looks like the F-302 does have a hyperdrive, but a limited one that's only good for quick hops within a solar system. Depending on the magnitude of the explosion from the planet, it's possible that they couldn't get far enough away.

She seemed to be giving him some looks that were foreshadowing this (or at least were intended to convey "hmm, maybe he's not as repulsive as I thought...and maybe he'll change his shirt now that he got blood on it").
On a related note, I'll surrender to Rhona Mitra anytime.

OK, wouldn't asphyxiation by venting the atmosphere cause any air breathing animals to pass out before death?

Especially since they have teleporter technology. I also thought it was a glaring inconsistency that she didn't just order those pilots to be beamed out of their 302s and back to the ship. Right up to the point that Sam's decision was used by Jack to make a point to Colonel Wants-his-mommy. Then it just went from an inconsistency with her character to a poorly thought-out deliberate one. They could have just had a couple of ground troops still in the pyramid where the teleporter couldn't reach to prove the same point without the "why tf didn't you think of that" angle...
As much as I enjoyed this episode overall, the poorly written move by Sam plus the foreshadowing of a probably Dr Franklin Deus ex machina were disappointing.
I had no problem with Eli's poor technique carrying Chloe around. I doubt he'd know how to do a decent fireman's carry if it wasn't featured in WoW...

yes, it's a really, really long wormhole
that's what happened in the pilot as well...some people actually got hurt landing on Destiny...so that part was consistent...

The Lucian Alliance also had a handy dandy Destiny door opener thingy while never having been on the ship, let alone having technical specs for the door lock. Maybe they could spin it that Telford stole the info.
