Set up Premier without cablecard?

With the Premier software getting better, I went ahead and ordered my own that will be delivered today.

My cablecard install isn't for a few days, but I'd like to get it plugged in and downloading the updates as soon as possible. Will there be a problem if I set up the Premier without cablecard now instead of waiting? I assume I will have to go through the guided setup again once the cablecard is installed.

Any reason to not do this?

You can setup your unit without cable card just fine. During setup, choose "I'll get CableCard later".

If you have account setup with TiVo and have service on your TiVo unit, you should be able to receive all updates regardless of CableCard being installed.

After you install the CableCard, simply rerun the setup again.

That is what you want to do. Just check the option for installing the cable card later. And by setting it up now you won't have to wait around and waste the technicians time when they come out for the cable card install.

You don't even need the service at the beginning as I was told by TiVo that they include one week of service for free.

I did not need to re-run Guided Setup when I got my CableCard installed. The Premiere detected the hardware as soon as it was plugged in and initiated the appropriate wizards. The same goes for the tuning adapter.

My new Tivo Premiere was delivered yesterday, so I set it up without a cablecard. Setup was easy with the HDMI cable and my then unused wireless g adapter. Upon initial startup, there was one service pack (14.1c) that took 20+ minutes to install. After that, I was up and running. I forced another few connects to see if I would get the 14.4 software, but no luck. The 5 welcome download movies were downloaded over about 5 minutes. I activated Netflix on the box and streamed a SD picture without problem.

I'm going to give it another week before I weigh in fully, but so far, I'm digging the new Premiere!
