American Idol "Top 3 performance show" 5/18/10 *spoilers*
Here we go.
Casey James 1-866-IDOLS-01, 04 or 07 - Song #1: "Okay, its alright with me" by Eric Hutchinson - It was alright. I'm not a big fan of Casey. Song #2: Randy and Kara's pick: "Daughters" by John Mayer - I thought it was pretty blah for me. Kind of lazy and borrrrrrrring..
Crystal Bowersox 1-866-IDOLS-02, 05 or 08 - Song #1: "Come to my window" by Melissa Etheridge - I thought she blew Casey away. Couple little pitch spots. Not bad. Song #2: Ellen's pick: "Maybe I'm amazed" by Paul McCartney - I thought it was pretty good. I want her to win among the 3. A little weird seeing a girl singing in the role of a guy but that's alright.
Lee Dewyze 1-866-IDOLS-03, 06 or 09 - Song #1: "Simple man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd - It was okay. I just don't see him in the same David Cook mold as some see him in. Cook blows him out of the water. Judges went gaga over Lee... Song #2: Simon's choice: "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen - I thought it was better than the first song.
I think it will be for sure that Lee gets into the finals. I think Crystal makes it and Casey gets bounced. If Crystal doesn't make the finals neither will I.

Truth. She's just using this as a bump for her comedy routines. It ain't working.
Bowersox continues to bore me silly. I continue to disappoint myself by tuning in!

I love Crystal but I thought Come to my Window was pretty weak for her. Now, I loved her Maybe I'm Amazed, she left it all on the stage for that one.
I gotta say though that I think Lee won the night. Both his songs were very good.
Casey was also good tonight but i don't think he is in the same category as the other two.
Crystal and Lee to the final 2 and Crystal better knock it out of the park next week because over the last few weeks Lee has stepped it up and has been picking great songs and performing them really well. Plus, he will get all the teen female votes.

Kind of a blah night for me. I thought Lee's Hallelujah was WAY overdone. Casey was boring. I was underwhelmed with Crystal's Come to my Window, but liked Maybe I'm Amazed a lot more. They definitely want Lee and Crystal in the final, and looks like they will get them.

Agreed.
For some reason I watched tonight.
Lee rocked IMHO. The other two did not.
We all knew the Ellen thing wouldn't be good. We were right, right?

Should we be surprised they all suck at this point? Looks like we will get another to add to the AI dud list when Lee is added below.
Ruben Studdard
Fantasia Barrino
Taylor Hicks
Jordin Sparks
David Cook
Kris Allen
Why do I watch this show? My favorite Lilly Scott was gone long ago.
Very interesting article: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/amer...orced-out.html

The hometown greetings at AT&T stores this year look much smaller than the big parades in years past.

I am fairly sure that they had multiple appearances then one small one at a random AT&T store. My guess is FOX is using that footage tomorrow or maybe filler for next week. I did however find it interesting that they showed Lee reading the judge's choice on the plane, wonder why he didn't read it at the AT&T store.

Casey was clearly weaker than either Crystal or Lee tonight. I really don't understand the orgasmic responses to Lee's Hallelujah. He hid his melodic weakness behind the choir - even on his big final note, he moved away from the mic because he was slipping off pitch. But the biggest problem is that his phrasing is awful. It reminded me of watching David Archuleta bleed every ounce of feeling and meaning out of "Imagine" by butchering the phrasing. Lee punched the wrong part of every line in Hallelujah. He took a powerful song and turned it into a vocal exercise.

That song exposed him for the hack singer that I've always said he is. That was the worst rendition of that song I have ever heard.
Crystal needs to really get back on her game though, because Lee has all the momentum.
Caset is going home.

It is so blatantly obvious that the producers want a Crystal vs. Lee finale. Casey was totally sandbagged by that song choice from Kara...it gave him absolutely no opportunity for a big "moment" to impress. He certainly didn't help himself with his own song choice, but the disparity between the level of songs given to him vs. the ones given the others was pretty blatant.
Only Ellen would come up with the idea of having Crystal sing "Baby I'm a man, maybe I'm a lonely man..."
I still can't see for the life of me why the judges absolutely fall over themselves about Lee every week. I mean, he's OK, he has a certain style, but he has very limited vocal ability. When you are straining like all hell and can't hit the notes in a Skynyrd song, you're not much of a singer. I know this isn't really a singing competition like they say it's supposed to be, but how is it that the guy misses note after note and they never say a word? Ridiculous.

Hallelujah! (pun intended)
Sing it, my brothers!
But I do agree that Crystal needs to step it up starting next week.

Crystal screamed through her songs tonight. Not good for me, dawg.
I liked Lee, and was pleased he changed up Hallelujah, which was a great song
until it became so overdone on AI to the point of me starting to despise it.
Casey. Just dreadful. Ta ta.
If this was the final, Lee would have won hands down.

I just watched Watchmen last night again, that is how Hallelujah is to be done, had I not heard that just prior, perhaps Lee's rendetion would have been good, instead I though, "meh, it was ok".

I like Lee, but I agree that the judges are waaaayy overpraising him.
He's got a decent voice but he can't hit the big notes. But he has the most "commercial" voice, the one that will sound right at home on middle of the road top 40 rock songs. One that might sell records.
The song chosen for Casey was absolutely chosen to be boring. The contestants needed "showstopper" songs. That song is FAR from a showstopper and even the best singer (which Casey is not) would have had a very hard time making anything good out of it. I figured he would be going home anyway, but the judges seemed to have tried their hardest to make sure of it.

One of the judges said it weeks ago - this competition was Crystal's to lose and that's just what she has done.
It appears to me the producers are pushing for Lee to win. He gets violins and a walk on stage vocal chorus last night and the other 2 got nothin.

Exactly - I am quite sure it was not Lee's idea to have a whole choir behind him on Hallelujah - it seemed like he was hinting in his comments that Simon not only gave him the song, but also the arrangement.

Kind of a disappointing night, but I'm sticking with it to the end as well. I was really hoping for some "knock it out of the park" moments last night. Something that would solidify in mind who I want to root for...
Well last night just made it even harder. I still don't know who I'm rooting for. I expect Casey will get voted off and it'll be Crystal and Lee in the final. Yawn... Not the best year of Idol ever, that's for sure. Hopefully Simon just stole all the talent for his new show and next year will be better.

Two problems with that theory.
First, the next American Idol (next Spring) takes place before the first X-Factor (most likely next Fall).
Second, if Simon Fuller has nothing to do with X-Factor, then I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he goes to all of the singers cut at any time during the Hollywood rounds and tells them, "Remember that clause in your audition contract that says you are required to sign any sort of recording and/or representation contracts we give you? Here's one that says you can't appear on Simon Cowell's show", if for no other reason than to make sure Cowell didn't eliminate a lot of the good talent just so he could poach them for his show. (I am under the impression that there have been singers eliminated before the live shows just because somebody thought, "They're good, but they can get better with one more year of experience" - certainly, this has happened on So You Think You Can Dance?.)

Yeah. I was only about half serious. I'm just baffled why they couldn't come up with better talent this year. They always have in the past. I think it's safe to say that the three people who are left now, aren't "the best unsigned talent in America". As I said, I know people in garage bands locally that can play guitar and sing better than any of these people that are left.
I guess I'm just used to having a clear fave to root for, and I don't have that this year. I really don't think any of them are that special. Casey has the charisma and the looks, but he doesn't have the talent. Lee can sing certain types of songs, but he is horribly inconsistent, and Crystal, while a "good singer" just doesn't have the "it factor". In other words, nobody has the whole package this year. At least IMO.
