Moxi headed for return
After a few hours trying to setup Moxi 2 tuner HD, here are my main complaints:
- Playon service (for DLNA, YouTube, Netflix) down by itself and needs you to click a button to restart it.
- Playon could find, but not play Youtube videos -- I just got a black screen
- Same for netflix, I can browse my queues, but get a black screen when playing
- The Moxi website advertises support for Comcast cable, but Comcast claims their cable card doesn't support Moxi.
- There is no help at all in the docs for trying to get Moxi to control a digital cable box (with an IR repeater)
- The Moxi interface is unbearably slow
- The UI is quirky. Sometimes it shows a picture of a back arrow and says press "OK" to go back. Other times, the back arrow on the remote goes back. Whenever trying to play a netflix or youtube video, it first asks you if you want to add it to your Moxi favorites.

I think you posted in the wrong forum.
Not saying that Tivo Premiere owners wouldn't find this interesting though.

I have a Moxi. I also have a Tivo. Though I like Tivo, I also like the Moxi. You need to give yourself time to understand the Moxi. The Playon, I agree needs work. But the situation with Comcast, you need to contact Moxi and have them contact Comcast on your behalf. I had Moxi contact my cable provider, Brighthouse. Brighthouse, I feel is a sorry excuse for a cable company. Moxi contacted Brighthouse headquarters and they found out, they are compatiable. The Local Cable Companies, do not check their updates frequently. Obviously, you must bug them. Moxi will help if you ask. I did get the cable card, but I needed Tuning Adapter, which you can also rent from your provider. I intend to buy my own when they become available, as well as the cablecard. Check your section under Moxinet for other services to use.

Absolutely the wrong forum to post in. This has nothing to do with the TiVo Premiere, and belongs... Well, I'm not really sure what forum it belongs in, because it's a TiVo Community Forum, and while there's the Happy Hour forum devoted to off-topic posts, I'm not sure a post such as this would have many views...

Considering we're almost at 200 views, I'm going to have to disagree with you. Honestly, I think this is as good of a place as any for a post like this. There is a strong chance that if you own a Premiere or are considering buying one, that you may also be considering a Moxi. Granted, a Moxi forum would be a better place to do some serious Moxi research, but a post like this can certainly help someone who might be on the fence. As long as we don't get flooded by threads like this, I have no problem with them.

LOL, OP's been a lurker for 4 years and his first thread is utterly OT. Try whining here.

And I'm with orangeboy, Moxi discussions on their own, without being part of an existing thread on the Premier are OT, and IMNSHO the only place for them on TCF is Happy Hour, folks can go to other forums to evangelize or bash Moxi as needed.
I don't really care how many views a thread has, this thread is off topic for a Tivo Premier sub-forum. (of course IMNSHO)

I supposed if I titled a thread using the word prostitute I would get a lot of lookers but that's not the the requirement for posting (the number of lookers) it should be about TiVo, and on this subcategory it should be about the TP/TPXL.

This thread is pretty amusing. It's way off topic, but it could easily have been made a little more on topic by the OP saying something like "FYI for all TiVo Premiere owners, here's my thoughts on the main competitor..." or something like that.
As it stands, the OP hasn't said a word since the original post and I'm not sure he (or she?) even realizes he posted here (although I'm not sure how easy it is to make a mistake like that).
To be honest, my first reaction when I saw this thread was to wonder if it might be a TiVo rep covertly bashing Moxi on a forum that has been pretty harsh on TiVo lately. I'm pretty sure that is NOT the case, though - this seems to be an odd mistake by a well intentioned OP...

Well there are plenty of issues with the Moxi. From what I've read and how I use TiVos, there are more issues with the Moxi than the Premiere. I know in their current states there is no way you could even pay me to give up my Premiere for a Moxi.

I see it more as some people just don't follow the forum rules that we all had to agreed to in order to sign up to TCF.
Not a rule, but seems to be the charter:

The TiVo Community Forum is for people with the common interest of TiVo to post information, questions, ideas, etc on the subject of TiVo PVRs. TiVo employees even post here and help out on occasion. There are also off-topic areas that are available to help enrich the TiVoCommunity experience.
|
Is a rule, and was not followed with the creation of this thread:

Do your best to choose the appropriate forums when starting a thread. Moderators may move threads to the appropriate area as they deem fit and without notice.

I have both. I wouldnt say there are more issues with the Moxi. My only downside with the Moxi is it streams too slow. If it streamed even on par with the TivoHD, it would be my #1 pick.

As most of you stated, there's no real place for this type of thread anyways. If the mods have a prob, I'm sure they'll move it.
While we're still here though...

Any details you can give on a comparison? I've been holding out on the Premiere since so far it seems not only underwhelming but problematic. Having used Tivos for what, 5 years now, I prefer to stick to what I know, but it also seems they've gone stagnant as far as progress is concerned.
On the flipside, moxi promises a lot, but most reviews mention how slow and quirky the UI is. Also how buggy it can be with the PlayOn stuff.
Hearing some pros/cons from someone that owns both and seems objective would be good

That's quite a milquetoast response. The post was reported to the moderators (for all the good that that does) yesterday. Sure, let somebody worry about it...
And to the contrary, life it too short to put up with BS that I don't enjoy. I like to think that I do something about it. I don't come to a TiVo forum to discuss and learn about a Moxi, anymore than I would go to a Chevy dealership to discuss and learn about the latest Ford Mustang.

There hasn't been real moderation on this forum since the new owners took over. Frankly, I doubt they care that the thread is OT.

Point missed. The topic shouldn't exist. It's against the forum rules. Period.
Not visiting threads defeats the purpose of coming to a forum I enjoy, doesn't it?
After some thought, it strikes me that it seems hypocritical that I should "get over myself" for expressing my opinion, if you think it's perfectly ok for someone to post an off-topic thread...

Alright, well, out of pure spite, I hope this topic continues on and hopefully provides some useful comparison information. Sure, it would help me, but for the most part, I just want to spite you.

Comcast doesn't know what they support. They have probably never heard of Moxi before. Just tell them you need a cable card installed.
