Comcast CableCARD - Charleston SC

I just got a Premeire XL, and have had Comcast Basic cable for years. I want to update to their Digital Starter package. Their website and all printed documentation says that a cable card is included with the Digital Starter package - but they keep wanting to add $16.95/month for the cable card.

I've spoken to various CSRs all over the world (including a 2 hour on-line chat that ended with them simply disconnecting). All give me the same answer. Supervisors are of no help either.

Has anyone dealt with this in SC or Charleston specifically?

I moved from Charleston last November and there was NO WAY that we were paying $16.95 for a cable card. I think it was more like $6.95 (which is still highway robbery).

I had two Tivo HDs, one with one multistream and one with two single cards. I think the difference is that we had the Digital Plus package instead of the Digital Starter.

So I would ask them how much the cablecard would be if you had the Digital Plus package. It might work out to be the same (higher price package with lower priced cablecard or lower price package with higher priced cablecard).

Thanks for the info. I just heard from them today and they said that they don't have a cable card compatible with Digital Starter, only the next one up. It's still 16.95 though. I filed a complaint with the FCC for false advertising. Not expecting much, but it made me feel better.

IMO, that is BS. Comcast simply permissions the card for the channels on the tier that you subscribe to. I am in NJ and have the Digital Preferred from Comcast. On their web site it says cable cards free for the primary outlet (in place of a cable box and additional cards are $2.05)

If you are adding the Cable Card in addition to your cable box, then they may add an additional outlet fee which could be that high, but I don't really know. Some providers make you pay for the additional outlet AND additional HD which could easily be $7-$8 each.

Additionally, try the TiVo Cable Card hotline, maybe they have a contact over at Comcast SC that can work out your problem....
