I'd Like to See

1) Faster start up time, now that the advertising shows the premiere with a "much" faster processor. The TivoHD's startup time is a joke in todays world.

2) Let's hope there are no annoying issues, like the FIOS pixelation, that took years for TIVO to fix.

3) I don't understand why they cannot put a clock in the front, like the CC boxes. I think a lot of people would like that and it would help sales.

I'd like to see client/server streaming like how the Moxi and Moxi Mates work. And I sure hope it isn't as slow loading images as it looked on that video of the new software.

Startup time? How often is the TiVo booted? The only time mine is booted is for a software update or if I move then unit. A faster startup time doesn't give me anything. the TiVo will run 24/7/365 with zero problems.

A clock?? Are there really people out there that won't buy a TiVo because there is no clock on the front?
The last thing I would want is a big display on the front lighting up the room. The old S3 display was fine, it was small but not too small since it's easy to read from ten feet away. The CC DVR clocks are big enough to read from forty feet away if not farther.

I like the OLED display better than the big, red and blue lights that indicate something is recording.

+1 for pooled tuners. I'd buy 3 tivos if they had that.

Startup time is very important. I was watching lost last week and my TIVO locked up and I needed to reboot it to finish watching the show. Yes in this case it is very important! I missed 5 minutes of the show.

Yes a clock! I almost didn't buy it due to the lack of a clock.

I don't understand all the talk about the OLED, if it wasn't on the HD, one would assume it wouldn't be back for the Premiere... granted I've never had a tivo yet, but I don't see as seeing the name of what's recording on the box being a benefit.. I would assume for most people it would be too far away to read anyhow

Having the names of the shows recording on the front of the TiVo is a really nice feature. I can see what is recording even if the TV is off. I can see what is recording on the other tuner without switching and possibly spoiling something. I can see that two programs are recording and not bother trying to watch live TV. It's certainly not a deal breaker, but it's nice to have.

I don't have those issues. My nine tiVos never lockup or reboot unless I initiate the reboot or it's a software upgrade which reboots at 2Am if I remember correctly.

TiVo learned with the S3, that most customers aren't willing to spend an extra $100 for that feature. That is why the TiVo HD replaced the oroginal Series3 so quick.

I don't need or care for displays on ANY AV equipment. All my AV equipment, including the TiVo, lives in a cabinet next to my TV, behind a closed door made of black metal mesh. I get my info about what's going on from the TV.

Uhh, it was way more than an extra $100. (Maybe you're somehow saying that the screen makes up $100 of the price difference.. But except for the remote differences, the screen seems to be the only *good* factor weighing towards the S3. Oh, slightly higher max disk capacity.)

$100 is a lot of money, though I could see putting a dollar value on the screen and seeing if people paid extra for it. (I think it'd probably be worth $50 easy.. though if I had never used one, I would think it was irrelevant.)

yes, but how much really? TiVo as a business has to blance the cost of adding the clock and maintaining any code and design for same over time. Do they get enough sales on that feature to justify the cost?

that siad I still have one cable box for free from TWC and have that in the TV cabinet in living room as it is indeed an easy clock to see and stays accurate all on its own.

oh and TiVo needs to add STREAMING so we can watch all shows from our DVRs

Yes, the S3 was way more. But I'm guessing that to add an OLED screen to the Premiere XL, they would end up charging at least $100 more. Sure, a few people would pay for this, but it is doubtful very many would.

Even if it doesn't happen often, Tivo has been around for 10 years. It shouldn't take as long as a Motorola box from Cox to load. Make you want to rip your hair out. The ugly GUI of those boxes are the very reason I can't use anything but a TiVo.

-After switched digital support is added, VOD Support, or at least pay per view billing. I guess Cox forgot, but they would get paid everytime I buy a movie. Why wouldn't they jump on it a little faster? Netflix doesn't have all the movies on Instant Queue.

If you click info and move down to the other tuner icon, does it show you the name of the program somewhere on the screen?

Yes it does. You can see what is being recorded on both tuners from the 'info' banner.

Hasn't this always been the case? I thought my old DireTiVo units in the early 2000's did this. Anyway this is how I ususally check what is on teh other tuner.

A warning telling me I will lose the buffer if I change channels would be annoying. I already know I will lose the buffer unless the channel I change to is already on the second tuner.

You are lucky, you are on FIOS. I am with Time Warner and I have to re-boot both of my Tivo's weekly (I do this on Saturday morning) or I will start to have problems tuning SDV channels and the box will start to lock up. Since I have been re-booting my units once a week the boxes will stay stable. If anyone else has had better luck I am all ears.
