Will TiVo Premiere offer QAM mapping?

I know that QAM mapping wasn't available on S3 models, but haven't seen anything that says it will be available on their new box. For me, I have just basic cable, and don't want to pay for cable cards because I have to sign up on their digital TV package. OTA HD is good enough for me. But if I have to manually program every OTA HD channel without a guide, then it's not worth it. Am I just being too wishful that they will add this feature?

Not from what I've heard.

I don't know about other providers in other areas, but Comcast in the SF Bay Area is going to be encrypting all but local channels over the next couple of months, so what good does QAM mapping do if all you can get is the channels you could just as well get over the air (for which there is guide info).

Here they already do. The only channels I can get via QAM are the locals and SyFy (not sure why), everything else is encrypted.

QAM mapping might be nice for people who only want locals and can't get good antenna reception, but I'm guessing that's a pretty small minority. I think TiVo probably has better things to devote their development resources too.

You've got to be kidding, here we go again... but there's not going to be much left on clear QAM anyway.

Exactly... which is why QAM hasn't been a priority for Tivo on any of their units to date...
