Hanging Tivo

My usually realiable Tivo has hung twice this week. Completly unresponsive, needed to pull the power to get it back. Are there likely to be any clues in the logs? No SMART disk errors being reported in daily emails.

Thanks

Lloyd

A couple more symptoms may be? Just went to use TivoWeb to delete some recordings, and get the following from Now Showing with Sort and Folders:

INTERNAL SERVER ERROR
--cut here--
action_folders '' ''
can't read "cache_ns_rec": no such variable
while executing
"lsearch $cache_ns_rec $fsid"
(procedure "print_nowplayingfrow" line 72)
invoked from within
"print_nowplayingfrow $chan $rec2 [lindex $show 0] $rcount"
("uplevel" body line 3)
invoked from within
"uplevel $body"
invoked from within
"transaction {uplevel $body}"
(procedure "RetryTransaction" line 5)
invoked from within
"RetryTransaction {
set rec2 [db $db openid [lindex $show 1]]
print_nowplayingfrow $chan $rec2 [lindex $show 0] $rcount
incr rcou..."
(procedure "::action_folders" line 705)
invoked from within
"::action_$action $chan $part $env"
("eval" body line 1)
invoked from within
"eval {::action_$action $chan $part $env}"
--cut here--

And this from Now Showing:

INTERNAL SERVER ERROR
--cut here--
action_nowshowing '' ''
can't read "nowshowingdir": no such variable
while executing
"ForeachMfsFileTrans fsid name type $nowshowingdir "" 15 {
set rec [db $db openid $fsid]
if {$nstype == 6} {
print_nowshowingrow $chan $rec $nst..."
(procedure "::action_nowshowing" line 58)
invoked from within
"::action_$action $chan $part $env"
("eval" body line 1)
invoked from within
"eval {::action_$action $chan $part $env}"
--cut here--

Do you think this is a separate issue, or connected to the hangs?

Many thanks

Lloyd

I find tvlog and tclient the most helpful. You should be able to see what happened immediately before rebooting by looking out for entries dated 1 Jan 1970 (the default boot time). Posting the results may enable someone to come up with an answer. Tivo can hang or reboot for many reasons.

The Tivoweb errors just mean that the modules can't access the relevant database. Could be connected, or could not! Have you seen them before? If you get data access errors it's usually good to restart to clean things out.

Do you have many processes or Tivoweb modules active? I had a lot of problems with TW plus: switching back to 1.9.4 and cutting down on the modules requiring intensive processor work helped keep my Tivo stable.

You might just have a corruption of the mfs filesystem.

This post might be of help if you want to run the MFS equivalent of chkdsk/scandisk, although it doesn't relate to the exact problem that you are having.

Thanks both for your suggestions. TivoWeb is now performing correctly after I restarted it. I think I'll wait to see if it fails again, and then try and look at the logs afterwards. At the moment I have no reason to suspect the filesystem, so will hold off from checking it.
