TivoHD Blank Screen

My one and a half year old TivoHD has a blank screen. It is running (fans running and green light). If I press the Tivo button on the remote I get a red light on the remote and the yellow light flashes on the unit itself, but there is no output - no video or audio. Unplugging it to force a reboot doesn't change anything.

Has my HDMI output died?

Have you tried the other outputs (i.e. component)? Do you see anything when you reboot? Have you ever had HDMI handshaking issues with your TV before?

I just dug some old cables out of the garage and I'll give it a try. In the past, it was completely plug and play as far as the HDMI is concerned. Its been working since before Christmas without any troubles (new TV at that time). I get absolutely nothing when it reboots.

I'll try the cables, but I'm sure I'll get angry and frustrated - the TV is hanging on the wall and is heavy.

OK - the component cables did the trick. The HDMI output is toast. Or is this a handshake problem? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that aspect of HDMI.

Could be a handshake problem, I had something similar to what you describe, and it took various combinations of replugging cables and power cycling the TV to get it to work.

It could be the HDMI in on the TV, the HDMI out on the TiVo or the HDMI cable itself.
Does your TV have additional HDMI sockets?
Have you tried connecting to them?
Do you have a blu-ray or other HDMI device that you could connect to your TV?
An additional HDMI cable to try and replace the one you have been using?
Does your TV have a way to update its firmware? (mine accepts a USB memory key, other can update from the Internet).
You can check the manufacturer's web site to se if ther is a firmware update available.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, and yes.

I did all that stuff. I even called Tivo and they offered up an exchange unit for $150. Other than 5 cables vs. one, I guess I'm fine with the component solution.
