transfer shows from series 2 (zippered) to DLNA server

I am upgrading my zippered series 2 boxes with new HD Direct TV boxes (HR23's) and I need to get all of my shows transferred from my series 2 boxes to a folder on my PC. I plan on using the DLNA capability of my new HD TV and/or the new HD DirecTV DVR's to view those shows (if possible). I understand the new HD DirecTv DVR's are DLNA complient. I realize there is no way to transfer those shows to my new DVR's, so...

Although it may be somewhat difficult, is there a way to transfer the shows to my PC in a standard mpg or avi format. Perhaps a link to a guide or is it just not going to be easily done? At least this way I could watch them with my DLNA complient TV or HD DVR, or that's the plan at least.

So, I'm assuming you haven't hacked your old boxes for hmo/mrv? It's unlikely that, unless you had previously superpatched your older boxes, you will be able to extract those shows because they are encrypted until you utilize the superpatch hack.

If that is the case, the only other idea that I might suggest is that you record the shows to dvd, and then rip the dvds to .avi or similar and store them on your pc in a dlna compliant manner. You'd have to really love those shows to go through all of that, but it is possible.

Incidentally, if you are planning to have a lot of movies / shows served up from a pc environment via dlna, you might want to check out Netgear's readyNAS products- they support dlna and are a great way to warehouse media on a home network.

yes both boxes are patched and I used the superpatch hack a long time ago. They've been running smoothly for the past 2.5 years so I don't recall all the hacking I've done but the are MRV capable and I seem to recalld doing the superpatch thing to. Is there hope to bleeding off the shows to my pc?
