Question Help! Is my problem the serial cable, comcast or tivo?

Hi Everyone!

My problem is strange. I have a series 2 dual tuner. It is hooked up correctly to my comcast Motorola digital cable box. I can use my tivo remote to change the channels and the channels on the tivo banner across the top of the screen match the channels on the cable box. However, every channel is playing CBS (channel 3 here) even though it says it's on a different channel. Tivo records at the correct time on the correct channel, it's just CBS! What the heck is going on? Do I need the IR cable?

Thank you for any help you can give! Happy New Year!

It sounds like you might have things not connected or configured properly. Go into the System Information screen and see what shows for Program Source (1) and (2) and then Source Input (1) and (2). One of those should show the cable box and coming in over the A/V inputs and the other should show just cable coming in via the RF input

It sounds like you might have the RF cable going from the cable box to the Series 2 DT instead of coming from the wall directly (or through a splitter)

Rachel-

Hi. Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like the TiVo THINKS it's changing the channels on the box, but it isn't and the box is staying on channel 3, feeding that and only that to the TiVo.

I'd make a suggestion on how to wire things up, but you haven't told us if you're getting any analog channels. (Can the TiVo or even an old analog TV tune ANYTHING without the cable box, cable feeding directly from the wall into the TV or TiVo?)

We need to know if you still have any analog channels on your cable system.

Let us know, and that'll be a good starting point so we can try to help you check or redo your wiring.

Rachel,

In your setup, TiVo needs to be able to change channels on the cable box, but it is not. TiVo thinks it changed channels, nut the Cable Box just sits on CBS. You do need the the IR cable or the the IR blasters, and the system settings need to be configured for the cable box.

Comcast may have downloaded a firmware upgrade to the box that disabled the serial port. Try IR blasters and see if the problem continues.
