Need Help with S2 Tivo and Comcast Digital Transport Adapter

On an older TV, we have an S2 Tivo connected to a Comcast digital transport adapter ("DTA"). When I first set it up, it took a while to get the IR connection working, but it eventually did work and everything was working the way it's supposed to.

Then, a few days ago we started getting no picture and the tivo message that it is searching for a signal. If we pull the plug on the Tivo, the TV works fine with the DTA. If the Tivo is connected, it works fine otherwise (except for not getting a signal), meaning it powers on, can connect to the internet and can play older shows that were recorded.

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this or what to do to fix it, as both the Tivo and the DTA seem to be working fine except for when they are connected to each other.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This TV is in our bedroom and I'm going to be having surgery tomorrow and will be in bed watching a lot of TV for a few days. Thanks

Any chance the 3/4 switch on the back of the TiVo got bumped? Or the equivalent switch, if it exists, on the DTA box?

If you still get an analog signal from your cable franchise on channels 3 and 4 (most folks, but not all, do), you can connect the cable directly to the TiVo again, and should get just that one channel appearing. You won't be able to change channels without redoing Guided Setup, but that should at least test that the TiVo can get a signal.

The next step in debugging after that is probably redoing Guided Setup on the TiVo to handle just the full straight cable connection (no DTA) again - that assumes you are getting some analog channels which is true for most folks.

As always, test that your cables are well-connected. A physical problem that I could see occurring is that the DTA boxes are so light that they get bumped and fall off. I can see the internal cable attachment coming loose; you might want to just see if that appears loose in any way.
