TIVO for the bedroom

I am looking to pick up a Tivo HD (or maybe a HDXL) for the bedroom. I have been trying to see if there are any differences in model numbers in the Tivo HD line and haven't been able to find anything.

Is a Tivo HD just a Tivo HD no matter the particular revision... or is there anything more desirable about new revisions as opposed to older ones (faster, etc.)

I believe the TivoHD is the successor to the "Series 3" model that gained HD. This unit originally had a 250GB drive as well as the only Tivo "THX" certified.

The Tivo HD available these days are the standard one with a 160GB drive as well as the Tivo HD XL with a larger drive, same hardware more storage.

I have two of the original Series 3's, one in the living room and one in the bedroom which is handy when the wife is in the living room and I want to watch a prerecorded program; just stream it.

these are the 3 models of Tivo for HD recording

- original series 3 with silver front panel display - can only reliably use 2 cable cards - one for ech tuner (some glitch in the hardware that can not be programmed around)

- TiVo HD - next unit out and different hardware from S3 does slightly slower file transfers than original S3 model, can reliably use one Mstream cable card to record on both tuners at once

- TiVo HD XL - same thing as TiVo HD but has the 1 terrabyte drive.


What I have chosen - buy TiVo HD (have 2 of them) and buy my own 1TB drive and upgrade the hard drive myself
