TiVo HD upgrading w WinMFS to 500GB

I have WinMFS and want to copy my old TiVo hard drive over to my new 500GB hard drive. This requires me using the backup/restore procedure yes? OK I have my old tivo hard drive in my sata dock and am able to see the tivo hard drive and I select it as my source drive. Check? Next step says to go to Backup and backup file. At this point when I go searching for the TiVo hard drive that is in my sata dock I cannot find it. Does this step of backup/TiVo drive (trunacated) not want you to choose the tivo drive again and the files? Because at this point I cannot locate the tivo drive. Am I missing something here? Help anyone? Buehler...Anyone? Thanks

Looks like the third place you've posted this same question. I responded to one of your posts already. Suggest you post directly in the sticky thread dedicated to this topic if you want a "better" answer than mine.

Hint: multiple posting the same problem is not cool (unless you've waited a couple of days and got no reponse).

Yes you did respond and I thanked you for that but the answer to my question wasn't provided. Being cool wasn't my objective here it was to gain some understanding and I had not received a response all day so I posted on this site again so this is a second time I posted and was more specific as to what I was hoping to understand. I have already copied HD to HD and taken care of the new hard drive but still don't quite understand how to do a backup(trunacated) But no matter.

My apologies. I missed your response to my response.

It looks like you're trying to do exactly what I have done. I'm not sure what WinMFS instructions you are using but the ones that I know are correct are in the Drive Expansion Sticky Thread, internal upgrades section, Item 19-A, Under "TiVo Internal Upgrade Instructions: Preserves Settings Only". In Step 13:
Quote:
In WinMFS, select File -> Backup to create a truncated backup. Remember where you save it.
When you select where to save the backup it's on your PC, so you don't expect the SATA-connected TiVo drive to appear for selection.

Follow those instructions very carefully and turn off virus protection while using WinMFS.

Thanks for the response. I think the backup did work originally now that I read your response and the tivo files didn't need to appear for selection. I went ahead and simply copied over my original tivo hard drive last night to my new 500GB hard drive and it has worked fine. This whole problem started out when I first posted about my TiVo HD kept freezing up on me usually on Mondays and Tuesdays. I did all the kickstarts on the original drive sunday and got no negative results and yesterday I left the cover off the tivo with the original drive and it recorded all five programs I had scheduled for Monday night. So not sure why it is working now but I copied it over to the bigger drive anyway and it will be nice to have more room now. Hopefully I have no more problems with the the freeze ups on Monday and Tuesdays like before. Thanks again

You're welcome and good luck with both drives!
