What is CBS doing tonight? (CSI)
They're running an episode with Grissom?
Umm...
Wouldn't that put it at least from LAST season?
Hmmm...
This is October, the current season started a few weeks ago. Okay, this should be about time for a repeat from last year. (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!)

This is the beginning of the last week before November sweeps begin. November sweeps begin next Thursday, October 29. It's very common for the networks to air repeats during this week, since they've already aired five straight new episodes of most shows, and will be airing four more new episodes during November.
In anticipation of a thread like this, last night I looked at the schedules for the networks for this week, and the vast majority of CBS's shows over the next week will be reruns. Fox has lots of baseball scheduled and House won't be airing on Monday. ABC and NBC have Halloween specials next Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

With presumably most readers at least closer to the TV addict than the general public, I'm surprised how often questions like this come up.. but I'm not meaning to be insulting.
That is, after a season or two of watching TV, you'd think people would pick up on these recurring situations.

Yeah, why are people still surprised when a 22-episode series is shown over 38 weeks, and there are sometimes reruns?

I think he was more surprised it was a rerun with Grissom, rather than a more recent one with the new character who's name escapes me.
But yeah, it seems to be a break week for many shows. No new Supernatural either.

A rerun is one thing (tho' this is still pretty early to expect it), but when the rerun isn't even from the current season...
I think you're overlooking that little point.
The ones with Fishburne's character on the team are already being shown on SPIKE, and yet CBS goes and shows the one that introduces him!

Well, asked and answered...why not show the episode that introduced the new lead instead of one from earlier this month?

Every year these reruns (mostly) match up with the MLB Playoffs.
Heck, they're not even putting up a Sunday NFL game against the World Series when they have an opportunity to blow the MLB out of the water with the rematch of Favre against the Packers.
It all that more amazing since the best that the MLB can do typically is come in second or third on any given night.
Talk about playing down to your competition.

I didn't realize that's what episode CBS showed. That actually makes sense. The ratings for CSI have dropped off pretty significantly since William Petersen left the show. I'm sure CBS feels that if they can get more people to be familiar with the Fishburne character, that will help people transition from Grissom. So it makes sens that they're trying to bring in more of the viewers that have perhaps stopped watching the show by helping them understand the genesis of the Fishburne character.

I don't think the reruns have anything to do with the MLB playoffs. In fact, this year, the World Series is scheduled to start later than ever, and November sweeps starts abnormally early this year, so you're actually going to see all the networks airing first run programs against the WS.
However, I do think it's odd that NBC would agree not to air a Sunday Night Football game opposite Game 4 of the WS. Perhaps that's a gentlemen's agreement between the leagues.
