Karma is a bitch ain't it? But, at least she did a good job when she got home.
Not sure how I feel about the rest of gang this year but I love Danial. What a great kid.
Unbelievable how big the people are this year.

I think they made a few good picks this year. There were some touching contestant stories.
I was a little shocked that they had them run the mile though. To me, it reminded me of the Hells Kitchen episode this season when they had to ride the bicycle up the hill.

I'm a bit disappointed with Jillian's hard ass attitude. I understand the tough love approach and kicking some butt, but having to bleep her every 10 seconds is a bit over the line.

They always portray Jillian that way, and to some extent she earns it. Look closely at what we saw though.
We saw 10 minutes of workout footage, and not of ALL the contestants. Only a select few, the people who were "problems". Meanwhile, there were what, 20 contestants? (I forget the exact number) They all worked out 6 to 8 hours a day for the first week before the weigh in at the end of the show.
When Jillian was yelling, those contestants weren't working out very hard and were called on it. Take the girl on the weird treadmill/ladder thing... she was milking it for all it was worth, at the time I told my wife, she's putting on a "show" sort of like my 5-year-old daughter does when she wants us to see how tough a time she's having it when we make her eat dinner.
After she came back in she was on that machine just fine. What had changed was her attitude, after she came back the machine was almost effortless for her. It was just as hard as it was before, the difference was she was ready to do what needed to be done.
Anyway, I'm with IJLT. That girl who was voted off had a horrible attitude. Her partner "only" lost 13 pounds? Dude. Ever lost 13 pounds? Great she lost 60 on her own though, and there's still 2 or 3 months until the finale. She'll be an at-home contender for sure.
Greg

Do they really show this everywhere in 4x3 or am I just seeing a cropped version?!? I can't believe we're on season 8 and it's not 16x9.
Or maybe they are keeping the "slimmed down version" as opposed to that "wide" format... Even aspect ratios need to go on a diet.
<Sigh>
Other than aspect ration so far I don't have too much to complain about. A few drama queens (and kings) but looks to be a good season.

This season looks like a good crop of people. I hope they don't play up Abby's tragedy every week. Don't know who my favorite is yet though.
I didn't see any real stand out weight loss on week 1 like we have in the past.

Well, they didn't make them run per se... just to 'race' to the end. (IIRC).
But that one girl really wanted to beat that returning guy (sorry, I'm horrible with names) and she was in no shape to try and out-pace him.
What happened to her was really scary though.
Lord, I wish they could edit this a little tighter. How many minutes of footage are repeated each episode?

Unless she is a complete lunatic behind the scenes I have a feeling she will get to at least the final 4. She will be a hard out. Knowing that story will make it tough to cast a vote for her.

I think you're confused. It's filmed 4:3, as most reality shows still are.

Boy it is going to be pretty hard to vote out Abby. After everyone told there sob stories it must have been pretty sobering to hear hers.

Maybe I just don't notice anymore.... Some reality shows are HD some aren't but how they transmit is up to the station.

ANTM is still 4:3 ratio too. Makes me think the producers are cheapskates. Oh well, it'll all be widescreen someday. At least all the channels I watch are in HD now so once all the old SD cameras die, they'll slowly start replacing them with HD versions. 3 more years oughta do it.
Looks like a fairly interesting cast this season and I'm interested to see how Bob and Jillian working together plays out. I'm guessing Bob probably doesn't have a problem with it.

ITA about Abbey. Poor young lady has been to hell and back. I wish her well and hope she hangs around for a while.

Did that one Woman lose her WHOLE family in a car accident? That's just unthinkable. I really admire her for being able to carry on. If something like that happened to me I think I'd probably just jump off a bridge.

yes her husband, their 5 yr old daughter and 2 week old son. She was not in the car.
I thought it was a good start to the season. I am glad they went back to singles and not families/couples. Something about singles makes everyone want to try hard for themselves and not for their partner there on the ranch it seems to me.
For some reason, I have become "friends" with like 20 or so of the TBL contestants, even Heba-talked iwth her a bit too, on Facebook. Hollie Self from SEason 2 had some interesting photos on her fb page from the season opener. The people were on the TBL logo ground cover stretching! See they never show that aspect of the show before the "first" challenge. Cast 7 and 6 have been very supportive of Season 8. kinda of cool. Colleen/Amy are good friends now too. Seems like the past 2 seasons have grown some very good friendships.
Glad Daniel is back and I am glad he picked Shay. What a great reason he chose her. He knows it is hard, but doable.

I totally expect someone to just punch her in the face sometime. (...and I say that even though I would totally pick her over the hippie tofu yoga wimp guy.)

Jill is tough, but it seems to be by design to get them going (plus I imagine there is a heapin' helpin' of editing there. heh). But I have to say - Bob...creeps me out.

Abby, almost broken, says, "But I ran a mile."
I'm sorry, but I am 100% behind her.
Her story is truly tragic, and... anything from here is huge.

I am not sure who I am rooting for besides Daniel. I have major respect for anyone who has lost that much weight. I just hope he has a decent partner this year so he can stay around a while and get below 200 pounds. I am sure I will get a few more favorites in the next few weeks.
It will be 3 years in October I have kept off the 150 pounds I have lost. The gym I belong to made a really nice poster to congratulate me on the accomplishment. I am going to reward my self with a nice long bulk this winter. I really would like to add a good amount of muscle this winter. I will still count calories to limit the fat gain. Try and keep it 500 calories over maintenance.

I'm not sure if you are serious, VikingGuy, but if you have really lost weight, probably your best reward would be to lose even more weight.
Don't give it back, for grins.

Come on over to the Weight Loss & Health thread! It's not just about weight loss over there, quite a few of us are on maintenance and a few are cutting/bulking.

I don't need to lose that much more weight besides a few vacation pounds I put on. I like my weight before my vacation 189 just need to replace some fat with muscle. I would love to get to 12% body fat at about 190 pounds. Every pound of muscle I add makes losing fat that much easier.

Yep, she's tired of being the fat girl with the pretty face....
Let me 'splain this to you dear. Losing weight isn't gonna solve all your problems, just the one about being too heavy. Your self esteem issue have more to do your inside than your outside.
