Project Runway Season 6 Premiere "Welcome to Los Angeles" OAD 8-20-09
Ok, what did everyone think?
Random thoughts-
*Ok, there was a designer who was as "COO COO Bananas" as Ari in Season 4 (can't remember her name-the one who made puppets and spat on her fabric) and she went pretty far-I guess this time they decided to send CCB home
*Johnny-is that the meth addict? How sweet was Tim Gunn with him? Tim Gunn needs to host "Intervention! The Follow Up Show!"
*Is Christopher trying to be like that dude in Season 4 who cried all the time? Get this dude some Prozac!
*Mitchell calling Tim "Mr Gunn" - LOL!
*Loved the winning gown-but I also liked Johnny's gown-in red or any other color, it was stunning. Ra'man has real talent. No one seems too cocky, yet!
*I am anxious to hear from all the other fans out there-I guess everyone is exhausted from waiting ALL SUMMER for the show! HA HA

I would have sent Crystal home- I thought there was hope for Ari but absolutely none for that contraption Crystal put together- second hand embarrassment, wow.
I don't know any other names yet, sorry... I liked the long black formal gown a lot, and I also liked the nightgown looking one. With what some folks wear on the red carpets I didn't think it was all that revealing anyway.

I love seeing it in HD and it seems that Lifetime must have a bigger budget than BRAVO had as the new digs are much nicer than the old "Parsons School" was. I noticed that Tim Gunn is now longer employed by them either. He's now an executive for a cosmetics company! Things have certainly improved all around for every one it would seem.
I really like the "Models of the runway" show they are tying in this year. I think the premise is great. Let's hope the execution is as good. I have always been curious about what these models might really be like behind the scenes. It may explain why they are always so late and sometimes never even show up! Looking forward to seeing it.

I forgot about this - my SP didn't pick it up due to the network switch. Setting it up now!

You do NOT need to put the word "spoilers" in the thread title when discussing a specific episode. Any discussion of an episode is going to include a discussion of what happened in that episode (duh). (Anything in previews or future episodes would need to be spoilerized though). Read the sticky post for an explanation of the rules.
I liked Ra'man's (however you spell it) dress and could easily see that one on the red carpet. I didn't see any problem with the color - was it black? It looked like navy or deep indigo to me, not black.

I don't know what happened... my provider (RCN) carries Lifetime HD and I tivo'd the show, but it's not in HD. Even worse, it's stretched to fill my 16:9 screen. Completely unwatchable.
But others are actually getting HD? WTF?

Yes that (only as I said, it was RCN in my case).
Which means that if they don't fix it, I've got to go in and add the SD version of Lifetime just to record this show. Pretty dumb.

I just re-checked and my version was HD as was the "Project Runway Masters" that was aired along with it. Probably just a glitch.

My version on DirecTV was almost unwatchable as well, it looked horrible! Right after watching this, I switched over to watch Top Chef, and it reminded me how much better HD looks. I hope this gets fixed ASAP.

DirecTV doesn't yet carry Lifetime in HD, so there's nothing to "fix". With luck, they'll add the HD after the launch of a new satellite later this year or early next year.

Tried recording a repeat of the premier from Lifetime HD and it had the same problem. Stretch-o-vision.

Seems to me like they clearly cast for entertainment value. There was some hideous work going down that runway and so much of it skated by in the middle, which is a shame.
What I like about PR is that, unlike Top Chef, it's simple to look and judge for yourself. But that loses some of its appeal if you think the designers aren't the best they could find.
I thought the top two dresses were very nice - especially the winners, though the color combination was so very obviously wrong on it. I'm no style guru by any stretch (T-Shirt and shorts guy), but even I could tell that.

The meth addict - seriously? You try out for three years, finally get on, and then crack in the first hour? With practically the easiest challenge ever?
And what's up with that challenge? I was waiting for "Make a red-carpet dress..... from things at the grocery store (or) .....with this fabric we give you (or).... anything else along the lines of normal challenges.
I know the designers have to roll with the punches, but I did think it was complete crap that the one guy's model's measurements were SO off. And then he mentioned it during the review and Heidi saying (paraphrasing) "Well, models are known to lie." Seriously? Like they wouldn't make sure the models numbers are correct? I can see the numbers being off for a challenge down the road, but for the first one? I just didn't like that whole thing... and had that designer gone home, I would have been pissed.
I made hubby sit and watch this with me (for the first time) and he had a blast making fun of everything...especially the silver monstrosity.

You hit on just about everything that I was thinking. I was waiting for the challenge to have some twist. It didn't. I mean, geesh, get material, make a pretty dress...big deal. A cake walk.
The weird girl seems to be a new cliche for PR. Have one really strange player each season. Sometimes they are good enough to get somewhere, sometimes they aren't. She wasn't.
I felt for the guy with the bad measurements, but we have run into that before with PR...models that can't make it and get substituted last minute.

Also, when I think fashion, I certainly don't think of LA. This show should be in NY, Paris, Milan... something like that. The move to LA doesn't make much sense.

I know it's cheaper to produce a show in Los Angeles.

I've been having a problem scheduling Project Runway on my Tivo. I can't always record the show on the premiere timeslot due to conflicts, and often have to schedule one of the repeats. When the show was on Bravo, this was not a problem. But, it seems that Lifetime can't keep it's schedule straight and for the past week I've been trying to catch episode 2 and it's either a half hour off or an entirely different show is playing. Both my Tivo Guide and Cable Guide (Cablevision) both show that Runway should be there but, that's not what's playing.
Is anyone else having the same issue? Is this an ongoing problem with Lifetime? I'm really surprised that they would be messing up so badly with a show they've promoted and coveted so much.
Thank you.

No conflicts/issues with DirecTV-luckily they show the reruns 400 times a week, so you should be able to catch it! LOL!

I have DirecTiVo and I'm also having this problem.
It's happened twice so far -- I have PR scheduled according to the guide data, but another show gets recorded (something Diva?). Lifetime is annoying me.
I still don't have the latest PR episode recorded as a result, and I've re-scheduled it to record the next two tries, but Lifetime better get it together.
