Tivo is recording same channel on 2 tuners at same time?

Here's one I hadn't run into before. I have a single Season Pass for Wipeout on channel 707.

A Wipeout recording started at 8:00pm on channel 707 with generic episode title "Contestants tackle obstacles" and is slated to record until 10:00pm.
(Info shows episode 214)

Then at 9:00pm the other tuner kicks in on same channel 707 recording Wipeout with episode title "Zig Zag Buoy Run; Sack Launch" slated to record until 10:00pm.
(Info shows episode 205)

Checking grid guide it simply shows the 1st 2 hour "Contestants tackle obstacles" episode 214, so where does the 2nd episode 205 come from?? (It's not visible in grid or tivo guide and search by title only finds episode 214 - no sign of 205 anywhere I can see).

Only thing I can think of is perhaps there was a scheduling change and Tivo somehow did not adjust scheduling properly which seems like a pretty serious bug...

That seems like some sort of guide error.

But I've had it record the same channel twice -- a program that's being recorded plus the other tuner is also recording that channel.

I had this happen last night, thought it was strange.
Recorded "I'm a celebrity..." on both tuners concurrently.

A wish list or suggestion may cause this if they don't know about each other.

Sounds like it was a change in the guide data since Wipeout changed from 2 1 hour episodes to 1 2 hour episode, it didn't know that the 2nd episode wasn't needed.

That's what I suspect as well. However it was interesting that the 1 hour episode from 9:00-10:00pm was nowhere to be found in my guide data that I could see. So it's almost like the To Do list was getting data from somewhere else not visible to me which is somewhat disturbing...

I've had it happen a few times, more often with an episode of the same show back-to-back maybe with padding:

I'm watching the Acme show as it records. "TiVo needs to change the show you're not watching to record "Acme show" on the same channel you're on....
This, when you wouldn't miss a second because it would be in one recording or the other.

TiVo also doesn't know the show in HD is the same show on another channel in SD.

Yeah, the problem is because the to do list does not go off the current guide data.

The to do list goes of a cached version of the guide data it used to create the to do list.

I've seen this problem before plus another one:

On my S3, I've seen it display it was recording some show name on the LED display, but the guide and the resulting recording showed a different show name. So, it was as if the LED display showed the cached version in the to do list.

This is the reason I am now OK with buying an HD XL (vs. trying to find another S3). The sticking point was that I love the LED display so I can immediately see what is being recorded and not have to go to Tivo central to find out. But, now that I know the LED display cannot be trusted, I'm fine with smashing it to pieces and getting the HD XL without this untrustworthy source of information.

I have discovered that happening a few times. I have seen it also on my Todo list where I have two identical programs scheduled to record. That could have been operator error on my part.

Interesting. You would think if anything the To Do List is the most important thing to tie to the latest available guide data for potential late changes. That is one complaint I have about TiVo scheduling in general is it's pretty bad at catching late changes in the guide. If I make a Season Pass change that affects same day recordings the changes take a while (hours?) to take effect by which time it's too late, so I usually resort to scheduling one time recordings for changes I need to happen quickly. Now that you mention this caching mechanism that makes sense why such changes don't go into effect right away.
