Arrow DSR-704 Message #81 and other problem

I'm getting that message (activate dvr service)on both of my phillips DVR's and on one of then I also can't see the channels, I can see the tivo info bar mand tivo menus but no shows.

On both of them I have done a system test and they are ok, with over 90% signal. I called directv and we tried adding and removing the dvr and programming etc with no luck. I have changed the dial numbers and connected to the service without problems. They send a technitian who says that the one that doesn't display the channels, is toasted and needs to be replaced and the other probably has some other issue and probably needs to be replaced also.

Any ideas? I have the instant cake CD, so I was planning on maybe redoing the hard drives with it. Any other suggestion would be appreciated.

I don't want to add a dvr, since I don't want to extend my contract right now, since I'm only 5 months from expiring.

Thanks

There is a place on the DirecTV website in your account where you can force a re-authorization of the receiver(s).

Did you get one of the DSR704s to power up?

While D* will never admit this the fact is since they have went to one software serves all some of the older tiviD* units have a problem with the access card. This has been going on for quite some time now and as D* wants customers to use newer units they sure don't care about fixing them much. That person that came to you either didn't know or took the easy way out. From what you described I submit that it is either the access card or the card reader and D* knows they have a problem with that. For help I would try CCS as I know they are honest and can fix it. Good luck!
