TiVo Series 3 stuck in "Cable card firmware upgrade in progress"
Greetings,
My TiVo Series 3 has been stuck in "Cable card firmware upgrade in progress" for two days. Finally last night, figuring it's stuck, I rebooted it (through the TiVo menu), and it has again been stuck in "Cable card firmware upgrade in progress" all night (over 12 hours again since reboot).
Any suggestions?

Call up your cable company. They're the ones telling the card it needs to upgrade its firmware, and they're the only ones that can fix it.

I have been thru this twice. The CC is not going to come back, no matter how many times you reboot. You need to have the Cable Company replace the CC.
The one thing you can do is pull out the CC that says it is upgrading its firmware and you will have a single tuner Tivo. This is what I did the second time it happened since I wanted to watch HD vs SD and it was going to be until Saturday that I would be able to have the Cable Company come out.

Firmware updates are very tricky. Charter rarely does them. In fact, I think my cablecards have been on the same firmware version for the last 2 years. If not tested correctly, they can easily kill all the cablecards on a specific cable head end. It's possible to get it fixed remotely, but it's very unlikely you could get a hold of the person responsible for the firmware updates.

Though since both of the originator's are having the problem, they may want to remove both to get a dual tuner tivo for analog channels.

Just to conclude this thread, I ended calling Charter to schedule two new cablecards, and the support person scheduled it, but told me she will stop sending the update and flag my account to not do that again.
When I got home, indeed the cards were working again, no more "cable card firmware upgrade in progess". It seems simply stopping the update did the trick, and the cards were not ruined. I cancelled the appointment and all is well.
