Wow, TiVo on the Network
So, I finally got a fast internet connection (Charter 10/1M) and put my S3 TiVo on a home network. Wow, as if I didn't already love my TiVo it's like supercharged now. I watched a couple movies on Netlix and that worked brilliantly. Then my wife got on YouTube and she's been checking out those videos. I think that's her favorite online feature actually. Anyway, I just had to make a post about how excellent the TiVo is online. So glad I got it on the network now, should have done it a long time ago.

It is a cool feeling the first time you stop thinking of a Tivo as a static box and begin to see it a as a conduit.

It is very cool. With the TivoHD I'm finally getting use/access to things that I could only hope would one day materialize with the Comcast DVR, but never did. I've always wanted to have the ability to copy and process some of my favorite races from SpeedTV to a DVD. Now, I am able to do it.
I went with a hardwired ethernet connection to both of my Tivos and it is working like a champ. The Netflix movies play like butter across the network and we are getting very good value vs the cost and limitations of Comcast.
Wow is right!

There is also nothing like downloading a "legal" movie or TV show to the PC and streaming it to the TiVo via pyTiVo. Or looking at photos, listening to music, etc. Regular DVRs have nothing on a TiVo. The best part is, just when you think it can do everything, you get a software update and it can do even more!
All that is missing is a keyboard! Can you imagine how much easier it would be to look at youtube without that horrible typing interface? Someday...

That would be an awesome addition that I have thought about on more than one occasion.

Definitely, a proper keyboard would be nice. I don't have the time or desire to do any hard core hacking on the TiVo to add one. If it was something that could be done through the normal user interface, that would be great.
I definitley agree that no other DVR can compare to the TiVo. Maybe the Moxi comes close??? I've shown our TiVo to friends and relatives that don't have a DVR. I just don't understand their resistance to using one. It really liberates your TV experience. And, the TiVo couldn't be any easier to operate. Setup can be a little trying with the cable cards, but if you get a good cable tech and don't have problems, it's a non-issue. Personally, I can't watch TV without TiVo anymore. My wife feels the same way. Now with the amazing online features, I don't even want to use physical DVD's anymore. I can't say for sure, but the picture quality might be a little lower with the streaming video, but I really have to squint to tell any difference, amazing.

I definitely have to agree with Craig. We've had two tivos for the last 2 weeks, and we learn something new everyday it seems like. Being able to pull movies/tv shows, music, photos from the PC is awesome. Nothing comes close for me anymore
