Lightbulb Series 1 Tivo needs Tivo activation

I have a series 2 Tivo that has died.

I want to replace it with a 300 Hour series 1 Tivo that used to have service on it.

Tivo won't allow it.

Any idea why not?

Were you the original owner? If not, the TSN probably was never released by the prior owner.

Question

I had service on the series 1 Tivo about a year ago, and then got an HD Tivo and swapped the accounts. However, the series 2 unit broke and so I wanted to add the series 1 back on, and Tivo won't let me do it. I've tried many times over several months while paying for non-service for that broken Tivo and they just won't let me receive service on it. I finally stopped paying for the broken Tivo last month. This is so frustrating. I have a working Tivo that they won't let me add service to. Any idea why this is so?

Have you tried just doing it online through your account at tivo.com?

I've tried customer service, three or more times.

I've been told it can't be done, then emailed and phoned back that it was an error in typing in the id number, and then told again and again that I can't get service on my 300 hour series 1 Tivo.

I can't see why they can't do that through customer service, but I would have at least tried to transfer service online... but I guess that's a mute point by now since you said you canceled the service you had. Was it at a promo rate or anything? Otherwise just "add new dvr" from your online account.

Cool

They said you can't add a series one Tivo for service anymore.

Since it was signed up a year ago, this shouldn't have been a problem.

That seems odd. My original S1 TiVo still shows online as available for reactivation.

I reactivated my Series 1 but it was only out of service for about month....and had been on my account for about 10 years.

Just tried to sub my old philips s1 that hasn't been sub'd in years and there'd be no problem doing it online.

Smile

Just noticed that I'm being billed for 3 Tivos, so I guess service has been activated on the Series 1 Tivo.

The series 1 Tivo is now functioning with Tivo service. Woo hoo!

My thanks to the folks at Tivo who got this working again.

Yippee!
