tivo doesn't respond when tv first turned on

i actually have two issues. purchased my series 3 eight weeks ago. no mods, upgrades, beta trials, et cetera.

my first issue started about three weeks ago when, after first turning on my tv, my tivo stopped responding to the remote after a good half a dozen responsive button presses. i should mention this all started the day my tivo first filled up on disk space and began deleting from the 'recently deleted' folder. a few minutes later, it starts working again. the more i press buttons in the interim, the longer it takes for the remote to come to terms with it's primary function.
>>>note: functions such as volume, which are not associated with the tivo machine, work fine most of the time with this problem as well as my other problem.
>>>i deleted many programs so the tivo would not be full - no change.
>>>new batteries - no change (but then again the batteries were working fine as the remote backlight flashed when i pressed a button - the tivo simply isn't getting the signal, or else deciding not to respond).
>>>new remote - no change.
>>>if i take the batteries out, put them in backwards, then put them back in correctly - success.

however, you can imagine i quickly grew tired of this (read as: day two) and called tivo. they told me to reset the machine, and if it didn't work i could get a replacement. upon hearing this, i politely told them where they might go. anyway...i was really close to getting several complete series of a couple of shows i'd been wanting to see for a while, yada yada yada, i can't take it anymore.

it gets better (in the respect that it's funnier for people with sadistic tendencies): my problem is compounded due to the fact that the battery trick doesn't work so well anymore. when before my tivo wasn't responding to my remote, my remote is now not responding to my remote. woe is me. one in five (or more) button presses does it take to respond. thing is, of all the buttons, FF works best. few problems with that button.

so, i propose to thee, fine peoples of tivocommunity.com, i shall, upon receipt of a working solution to my problems, present to the bearer of said solution...one free internets.

Is it an LCD television? If so, look for an energy saving feature and turn it off. You can also try turning UP the backlighting setting.

solved-

yes it is an lcd, but the energy saver was already off. i turned the backlight all the way up to negligible effect. not sure what that was supposed to do. what did i do to fix it?

i did a third battery change - but this time i picked a brand i hadn't tried yet. it works perfectly now. no more panasonic for me.
