Time-Warner, cards, adapter, box, confusion

I have Time-Warner cable, HD TiVo. And yes, it took them a week to figure out how to install the cards, but that's water over the dam.
A couple of weeks ago, they sent a letter about the Tuning Adapter, and last week it got here.
I expected the Adapter would make it possible to get the ON DEMAND channels of HBO & SHO, but that isn't the case, they tell me.
If I want those channels, I would need their BOX, for another $3.
Mainly I'm asking, will it work, having a TiVo and TW box at the same time?
Where would the box go iin the circuit? Before or after TiVo?
I can't be totally sure the answers the TW person gave me are accurate because of a history of people not being as informed as they should be.

thanks

Unfortunately the adapter is only for SDV channels, not On Demand or PPV. They are correct, you will need one of their boxes. What I do is split the signal coming out of the wall. One goes to the TiVo and the other to the cable box. Then then use 2 different input on the TV.

That brings up another question - I'm already splitting it once, to my new HD Tivo and the old series 2, which I find useful when I need (or at least want) to record 4 things at once.
Would that weaken the signal to any noticeable degree?

It might. Depending on the strength, replacing the two-way with a three-way or even four-way splitter may still work. You'd have to try. Worst case is to use a splitting amplifier instead of a passive splitter.

You could also put the box on the S2, as the S2 should be able to control it. You can record analog off the box onto the S2 through the s-video input on the TiVo.

The HD cannot control the cable box.
