Which makes my support call tonight all the more odd.
Yes... all of our Tivos failed simultaneously.
That's what the first CS rep told me. It's not a problem on Tivo's end. Didn't know of any phone problems other than access numbers not working at all. I've tried at least six different access numbers with the same results. Sometimes they don't answer, sometimes they answer and can't connect, sometimes the get as far as downloading before failing. The fact that my S1 seems to be having the same problems as so many others is a coincidence. I repeated that back to the CS person just to make sure I was hearing it correctly. She said to call Phillips, Tivo couldn't help me.
The Phillips number, 800 260-7032 only put me in a phone menu loop. Or I could call the disconnected number for other Phillips products. No help at all.
So I called Tivo back. This time the rep was aware of the current problems. And I guess just for grins the first rep decided that I have DSL even though I repeatedly told her I didn't everytime she brought it up. And she had decided my phone line had gone digital... not part of our original conversation.
I was given a string of ,#721 by the second much more helpful CS rep, who also didn't try to convince me that I was part of the mass modem failures. Mine does test calls fine, pulls down new numbers with no drama but when I try to get guide material I get call interrupted, service not answering, couldn't connect and a few other errors randomly. Mine is an S1 using the internal modem and it was fine up until a coupleof weeks ago. At best it'll connect and download for 10+ minutes before it drops the call with a call interrupted message.
I have another S1 with an external modem and so far that one seems to (still) be working okay. I was told that I'd gotten plenty of use out of the S1 I'm having a problem with and it might be time to replace it. I mentioned that I had lifetime on it (since 10/2000) and it wasn't transferrable and was then told I had plenty of other Tivos under service to use. I know he meant well but that's not exactly what I wanted to hear.
I'll just like for someone to let me know exactly what is going on. That's all. A straight, fact based answer.
I have: Tivo HD, S2, Toshiba and two Phillips S1 boxes currently in use, with another S1 not currently being used. Lifetime on the S2 and S1's.
