Going rate.

Well I am in the process of going HD, so like with people selling antiques, I will let someone else enjoy my tivo's.

I have 3 lifetimes, I will be keeping a basic one, I have given one to a friend who loves it.. It is the main one that I think will be going..

I have been following ebay, and I think they are selling better split without the cachecard.

So I will probably sell the cache card with 512MB of matched memory.

Also my tivo is very rare as it has 32mb of system memory, all UK boards only have 16mb.. Don't know if I should mention that or if it may just confuse people....

I know it does not need a poll, but I am a little bored.

Today is a very sad day..

P.S. I have just noticed this is my 2000 post on this site.. How ironic.

Any long term readers of this forum will no doubt be well aware that the Tivo system board lets you add another 16mb of memory with a soldering iron. However subsequent opinion was that it made very little difference to operating speed and it more or less fell out of fashion after the Cachecard with the possibility for 512MB of RAM was launched.

My personal view is you should sell the beast you have created complete so it lives on as it is intact in its former glory. Dismembering it just to earn a few quid extra seems thoroughly mercenary and disloyal to your Tivo to me.

Also if you sell it with the 512MB of RAM, Cachecard and 32MB memory advertised as a complete unit (and mention it on here when it is up on Ebay but without posting a link as that is not allowed) a Tivo enthusiast will buy it but if you sell it cheap and dismembered it may just go an uninformed budget buyer. That would seem rather a sad ending for your old and trusty friend.

Yep, the 16mb upgrade was a scary time, but worked great. As long as you enter the tivo prom with a serial cable at boot to tell it you have upgraded. (Like a PC bios). Also if you do change this value to 32mb and the memory did not install you kill the system board as it will not boot again.. ever....

As you will probably know the system memory works completly differently to the cache memory, the cachecard allows HDD caching to the database which is 512mb. The system board memory allows programs to stay loaded into memory, programs like cron, and running programs. I suppose it may allow hacks run quicker, as it does not have to unload/load them from the swap hdd file all the time???? To be honest I don't know...

I have pasted my current memory usage of the tivo from tivoweb showing the 32mb, I suppose it will just use the swap file less???

total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
