Heroes 2/2/9 Clear and Present Danger
Really? No thread yet?
In general I thought it was pretty boring. Round up all the known specials and stick them on a plane. Set Sylar up to be a hero this season.
And Peter. WTF? Dude! You can fly, AND you have Claire's healing ability. Just let go!

Except that it seems his powers have changed.
When he was shoved into not-Niki, it seemed clear that he lost Mohinder's strength and wound up with her freezing power.
He may only be able to use one power at a time.

I was kinda bored until they tried to capture Sylar. That scene with him taking them all out was well done; much better than past scenes of him opening his cans of whoopass. I thought it improved from then on in.

Do you think he keeps the power after he has contact with the person? I think he might have Rogues power (from the xmen movies), he just absorbs a power for a short time and then loses it. OR I guess he could still have his original ability to get everyones powers, he just needs to touch them now.
So we are having a lost/heroes cross over?

Maybe it's just because I'm an engineer, but an aircraft depressurizing for more than just a second with a huge hole in the side is just ridiculous. Once the pressure is equalized all you would have is wind coming in the big hole. Also, it would not continue to depressurize as the altitude lowers. I'm not even sure that type of aircraft is pressurized.

You'd think Peter would have learned not to hug family members by now.

It was hinted that he keeps his power. Paraphrasing...
Nathan: "So what *is* your power these days?"
Peter: "Remember what I doing the last time I saw you?"
Nathan: "Flying."
And Peter left it at that. Since Peter had been lying low and hadn't had contact with anybody for a while, I presume he was implying he'd been holding on to that power.

I find it so depressing that this show which was GREAT during season 1 has had how many revamps and so far is STILL SUCKING.....
They need to let go of the current cast and allow them to live/die as the story advances. Be willing to kill off some people. And stick to a path that is entertaining.
The current path is decent (round them up for safety reasons) and could be interesting. But I really think they will screw it up.

I think the writers are doing one of two things with Peter:
1. He only has one power at a time
2. He has many powers, but he now has to physically touch the person to gain their power.
if it's 1, then I think that's the writers way of removing the superman-like ability Peter always has. If it's 2, then I think the writers are using that mechanism to better help the audience figure out which power Peter gets.
Used to, he just had to be around the person and he got the power. This caused problems for the viewers in that a) how far could he absorb, and 2) how does Peter realize he has the power. This way, everyone knows that he probably has that power. I kind of like it and it was probably needed from the beginning to make it more understandable.
My bet is that it's #2

He clearly doesn't have all the kitchen-sink powers he did; when Claire was freeing him he mumbled that he didn't have strength anymore, until he touched Suresh.

So is this the first episode with Bryan Fuller on board? It seems like it is based on the Pushing Daisies Peter Petrelli effect.
I am really hoping that this is not a massive retcon of Peter's powers. We didn't see this touching effect in the finale when he absorbed Nathan's powers. Hopefully it's just a "stronger" method for him to absorb powers in a weakened state or when the people he touches are low on adrenaline.
Probably not, though, since he was in the cab with Mohinder and didn't have super strength until he touched Mohinder.
I actually like the Hiro storyline. Or did for a moment there.
Who was the brunette who was unmasked? Do we know her?
Overall a pretty decent intro to the new storyline, but it seems like they are unwilling to give up the stupid prescient artist thing, which could be really annoying...

Peter's powers have definitely changed. For one, it seems he now must touch a person to get their powers instead of just having them near by. Second his powers appear to either wear off after a while or get replaced when he absorbs another power.
I'm leaning toward the "wear off" theory since after absorbing Mohinder's strength and fighting off a bunch of guards, one guard started beating him up. If he still had super strength at that point, that shouldn't of happened,
In any case, his power level have been dramatically lowered with those restrictions. This is probably a good thing since he was so overpowered in previous seasons that they had to come up with dumb ways to keep him either unconscious or stupid.
As for the episode itself, it wasn't particularly good. Especially if you compare it to 24 which it was up against.
Questions:
1. Why grab Hiro since he has no powers (or does Nathan not know that)?
2. How did they grab Hiro since he was in Japan? Since when can U.S. government agents just mosey into Japan and abduct someone and get them back to the U.S. in a few hours?

I'm pretty sure it's changed. In the finale he didn't fly until after he grabbed Nathan.

Him touching to get the strength and freezing power makes no sense in light of him getting the flying power without it.

Like I just mentioned Peter didn't fly until after grabbing Nathan so he could have gotten the flying power by touching Nathan.

We didn't see the special effect then. It could just be a change in how they portray it visually, but either way it smacks of annoying retcon.

I really liked the episode. The way it ended reminded me of how the series premire ended with Nathan trying to hold on to Peter when he tried to fly.
But I want to know where Sandra and Claire's brother are. Why would Claire want to live with Mama Petreli instead of her mom and brother.

They kind of had to retcon Peter,as he was becoming the Swiss Army Knife of heroes, and he would unbalance any kind of plotting. IMHO Kring wanted to kill him and Sylar off at the end of season 1 but didn't for some reason, and now he is stuck with the decision.
I assume they grabbed Hiro (and didn't grab Ando) not knowing they had lost/gained powers, although I wonder how they were able to grab a Japanese citizen in Tokyo. Also, When Ando looked at Hiro's implanted GPS it seemed to be somewhere in Africa, Morocco or Algeria maybe. How did the rest of the gang get there, and why were some of them being driven?

Fuller didn't come on board until the 19th episode. Last night was the 14th episode of the season.

Having super strength does not automatically confer invulnerability on a person.

I'm not saying it does, but someone with super strength should be able to beat a normal person in a one on one fight.

Unless it's peter who seems to have minimal control over abilities he absorbs.

This season looks promising, but we'll see. My biggest problems with this episode:
1) Why/how is Sylar alive? They even said they found dental records...come on.
2) Enough with the white-eyes thing...now it's not a power, it's a "calling"? Really?
Otherwise it looks like this could be an entertaining season.

Maybe that stuff he made for him had the formula in it. Oh, then Hiro should have had that too for the day he still had his powers.

1) Technically Sylar is immortal (other than getting his head blown off). He was "killed" by having a shard of glass shoved into the back of his head. In the first season, Claire recovered from being dead, after having the object in the back of her head removed. Sylar could be alive, if the fire was hot enough to melt the glass in Sylar's head. As for the dental records, I believe Mama Petreli was lying to Claire to keep her from snooping around (she basically said as much when talking on the phone to Nathan).
2) Agreed. The precognitive painting power has changed from a mutant power to some kind of divine gift. I find that to be stupid.
